DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Boiler Operator to join our team in performing trenchless sewer and storm line rehabilitation and repair. The Boiler Operator plays a vital role in operating and maintaining the boiler equipment and truck/trailer used during the Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining installation process. Flexibility to travel to project sites as required is essential for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions. Stop work in the area of an identified health or safety problem until resolved.
  • Operate associated sewer equipment, generators and power tools; maintain secure control, upkeep and serviceability of assigned equipment.
  • Comply with Company Safety Policies/Procedures, equipment safety specifications and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Conduct pre and post operation vehicle and equipment inspections, perform daily operator level maintenance on Boiler, Tractor/Truck, and report maintenance/service requirements.
  • Assist crew with collective tasks; install site preparation, line installation, and cleanup of site as directed by Foreman.
  • Perform boiler pre-fire steps and position boiler within constraints of installation site.
  • Identify the correct curing pressure for the line and follow curing schedule.
  • Monitor gauges, track temperature/pressure, attend to problems and ensure consistency throughout the curing process.
  • Perform below ground confined space work; preparing line for installation and cutting cured line to fit and seal system.
  • Operate safety equipment; air monitor, fall protection/retrieval system, traffic management equipment, PPE.
  • Perform collateral responsibilities as โ€œTop Manโ€; fill out confined space permit, lower & retrieve crew members into/from manholes and safeguard crew members conducting below ground confined space work.
  • Work in outdoor field conditions in all ranges of weather and temperature.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Proficient in driving the boiler truck/tractor-trailer.
  • Experience working in construction environment, preferably with water or sewer utilities. Trenchless installation technician experience preferred.
  • Must be able to conduct physically strenuous work, work in confined spaces and all types of weather.
  • Be able to work independently, ability to handle problems and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, safety rules.
  • Ability to comprehend instruction and perform tasks independent of direct supervision regarding; safety procedures, equipment use, maintenance, installation techniques and mobilization of crew to work site.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Flexibility within working hours and days. Must be able to travel regularly.
