Job Responsibilities
The SC Department of Agriculture is looking for a top-notch Administrative Coordinator! Do you excel at customer service over the phone and email? Do you like to conduct research on various topics? Are you a master proof-reader? Are you looking for an environment where no two days are alike? Then this position is for you! In this role, you will:
  • Serve as the front-line manager of the South Carolina Agricultural Tax Exemption (SCATE) team by answering calls and emails from customers for new applications, card renewals, and information updates.
  • Send monthly renewal emails to SCATE cardholders.
  • Monitor and order supplies for printing and mailing SCATE Cards.
  • Facilitate SCATE webpage and application updates with the program software platform provider.
  • Coordinate the monthly schedule and provide training for staff that assist with SCATE calls and emails.
  • Provide administrative support for the Deputy Commissioner for Agency Operations, Finance and Administration Department, Information Technology (IT) Department, and the Commissioner's Office.
  • Organize and maintain records and files, such as asset inventory.
  • Coordinate surplus and recycling of IT equipment.
  • Perform some tasks for new employee onboarding, like communicating phone numbers and email addresses to Finance and Administration for ordering business cards.
  • Complete travel requests, reservations, and reimbursements.
  • Proofread print and electronic materials.
  • Assemble and distribute the weekly schedule for Division staff.
  • Prepare financial requisitions, goods receipts, and scan documents for payments and receivables.
  • Serve as the team leader for the main phone line by answering main line phone on assigned days and creating main line phone schedule.
  • Review and distribute incoming mail and other correspondence to the correct staff.
  • Respond to general information requests that come in via the agency website.
  • Attend assorted agricultural meetings and serve as recorder of minutes.
  • Assist with media inquiries, Outlook calendar updates, detailed records, mass mailings, meeting preparation, and project execution.
  • Maintain and update written procedures and practices in a desk manual for this position.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five (5) years administrative or office experience or an Associate's degree and a minimum of seven (7) years' administrative or office experience.

  • Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Working knowledge of the agriculture industry.

  • Periodic overnight travel required.
  • Must be able to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings/events.
  • Position is based in the Wade Hampton building on the Statehouse grounds. This is not a remote position, but employee may be eligible for one remote day per week after probationary period.
