The Opportunity:

Recycling Management Resources (RMR) has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time Operations Manager to join our growing team in Duluth, GA. The Operations Manager is responsible for First Line Personnel Management responsibilities including Safety, Environmental, Maintenance, Quality, Asset Performance Management, and Inventory Management.

In this role, the Operations Manager targets and accomplishes high level results and goals through the team, prioritizes and leads / manages activities in the most efficient means possible, collects data, monitors progress, manages issues, overcomes obstacles, accepts accountability, and leads / motivates the team.

The Operations Manager will oversee operations, maintenance, and general labor staff. This position reports to the General Manager.

Weekend or evening work may be required.


Travel Requirements: up to 10%.


How you will make an impact:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily:

  • Develop, cultivate and enforce our “Safety Is a Part of Everything We Do” culture by ensuring all established safety procedures and protocols in the Plant are adhered to include Near Miss Reporting, High Risk Task Reporting, Incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Coach the importance of company safety processes, and how they benefit from a safe working environment Continuously
  • Ensure monthly Safety Compliance and Training is completed to adhere to the RMR Safety Management System.
  • Utilize Performance excellence in Leadership, analysis, strategic planning, customer/supplier focus, workforce focus, operations focus, and importance of results.
  • Create a daily production plan that ensures maximum production efficiency to ensure the total plant objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Utilize Daily Management System to track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
  • Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
  • Manage and minimize labor overtime, premium freight, and repair expense to achieve daily efficiency goals
  • Continuously monitor operating budget and works with appropriate organizational personnel to deviations/abnormalities from annual budgets
  • Keep all necessary business licenses and occupancy permits up to date, as well as fire suppression system inspections, and any other licenses needed to operate the facility
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure that plant employees get requested information and/or concerns addressed by HR
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • High School Diploma OR GED required; Bachelor’s Degree and/or progressive high-level supervisory training in recycling and/or manufacturing industries preferred
  • 4+ years’ experience leading operations management or supervisory experience required
  • Maintenance Experience and Strong Mechanical aptitude, OSHA training, Material Handling experience preferred
  • Previous Operations Manager experience in the recycling industry preferred Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement experience desirable
  • Advanced understanding of Safety/OSHA regulation and programs
  • Advanced knowledge of recycling plant operations

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of how to identify problem areas and to understand what success looks like
  • Understanding of Scale Operation and fundamentals.
  • Understanding the impacts to production and how to teach and coach others through the variation of operation.
  • Ability to operate with the supplier / customer's best interest in mind.
  • Maintain knowledge of customer’s material specifications and document all material rejections by customers
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT, and Outlook)
  • Familiarity with plant office functions and Office Manager responsibilities
  • Detailed knowledge of how to properly operate a baler, forklift, skid steer, wheel loader, and if applicable a sort line focusing on optimal utilization.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, instructions, signs, signals, and safety training.
