Crossbones Dog Academy

Providence, RI • On-site

$21 - $24/hr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 22 days ago

Job description

Dog people who love responsibility, this one’s for you.

We’re Crossbones Dog Academy, a positive-reinforcement dog training & daycare business in Providence. We’re hiring a full-time Dog Daycare Lead to keep playgroups safe and enriching, guide the growth and success of our daycare department, and keep day-to-day operations moving smoothly.

This role requires open availability from 6:40AM to 6:30PM Monday through Friday. In return, you can count on having weekends, nights, and all federal holidays off.

This role is for someone who:

  • Genuinely enjoys working with both dogs and people.
  • Stays calm and observant in a busy, active environment.
  • Takes safety and structure seriously.
  • Likes being reliable, shows up on time, and notices what needs to be done.
  • Believes in (or is eager to learn) positive reinforcement and isn’t afraid of cleaning, routines, or physical work.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Lead and supervise dog playgroups indoors and outdoors.
  • Use rewards and kind management to guide behavior.
  • Oversee other daycare team members, making sure safety rules and daily routines are followed consistently.
  • Coach and support team members on reading dog body language, preventing problems, and using appropriate handling.
  • Be a consistent presence during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up on scheduled days.
  • Clean up messes, prep meals and enrichment, and share observations with the training team.

What it’s like to work here:

  • We’re a small, owner-operated business, not a corporate chain.
  • You’ll know the people you work for, and your ideas and observations will matter.
  • We value responsibility (safety, cleanliness, follow-through), working together (backing each other up and communicating honestly), and impact (using positive methods to make life better for dogs and their humans).

What you bring:

  • At least a year of hands-on paid dog care experience, including comfort handling dogs of all sizes and doing physical work.
  • Leadership experience, whether that’s in a previous job (preferred) or elsewhere in your life (sports, hobbies).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and willingness to learn.

Key details:

  • Full-time weekday role with consistent hours, $21-$24/hour based on experience.
  • No overnights or weekend shifts.
  • Competitive hourly pay, PTO, health and dental contributions, continuing education support, retirement match, free training classes, staff discounts, and opportunities to grow into trainer roles (full details on our Careers page).
