Instrumentation & Commissioning Specialist 3

Location: Lakemont, GA

Contract- 3 Years

Client- Southern Company.

Position Summary:

The Startup & Commissioning Specialist will play a critical role in supporting project startup and commissioning activities at fossil power plants. This role involves ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency during all phases of commissioning while coordinating with plant staff, engineering teams, contractors, and vendors.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Abide by all safety rules and help establish and maintain a safety-focused culture

  • Perform project startup and commissioning activities as directed by Startup Leads and the Site Startup Manager

  • Assist Startup Leads in managing startup budgets and schedules

  • Accurately document startup and commissioning results, including punch list development

  • Develop and maintain Startup Turnover Packages

  • Support implementation of startup procedures on projects

  • Ensure quality requirements meet applicable plans, specifications, and standards

  • Identify installation problems, assist in developing solutions, and ensure corrective actions are executed in accordance with approved plans

  • Conduct point-to-point checkout, yellow-lining, and loop checkout

  • Coordinate daily startup activities and facilitate communication between all stakeholders


Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of related experience or a 4-year degree in a related field

  • Broad general knowledge of fossil power plants and major equipment/systems design and operation

  • Understanding of requirements and regulations for working on or around energized equipment

  • Adequate knowledge of OSHA and applicable environmental regulations

  • Knowledge of LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting drawings, P&IDs, operations manuals, and instrumentation details

  • Adequate knowledge of I&C logic, DCS configurations, and startup processes


Skills & Expertise:
  • Self-starter with strong initiative and proactive problem-solving abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work across all management levels and build effective relationships

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously

  • Ability to interact with plant staff, design engineers, and vendors effectively


Work Environment:
  • Field-based role in a fossil power plant environment

  • Must be able to work around energized equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols

  • May require extended hours, weekends, and on-site presence during critical commissioning phases
