Job description

Your role and responsibilities (Mandatory)

Summary: Operate or tend plastic molding machines, such as compression or injection molding machines, to mold, form, or cast thermoplastic materials to specified shape.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Must meet or exceed company requirements for safety. Must complete all required mandatory Safety, OSHA, and ISO 9001 training (see attached list). Set controls and check the production machine before starting. Load raw materials. Operate machines in accordance with safety requirements. Maintain consistent operation of output. Check the quality of products and take part in quality improvement activities. Report defects. Keep production records and quality assurance data. Fills mold with mixed material or applies material to mold to specified thickness. Molds parts or products using vibrator, handpress, or casting equipment and taps or tilts mold to ensure uniformity. Operates and adjusts controls of heating equipment to melt material or to cure, dry or bake filled molds according to specifications. Opens mold and removes finished products. Assembles, inserts cores and fittings using hand tools. Brushes or sprays surface of mold with parting agent or inserts paper to ensure smoothness and prevent sticking or seepage. Measures and cuts product to specified dimensions, using measuring and cutting instruments. Fastens metal inserts and bolts using hand tools and power tools. Cleans and trims products or parts. Cleans and lubricates mold and mold parts. Removes product from mold or conveyor, and cleans and reloads mold. Positions mold frame to correct alignment and tubs containing mixture on top of mold to facilitate loading of molds. Examines molded product for surface defects, such as dents, bubbles, thin areas, and cracks. Fills tubs, molds, or cavities of machine with plastic material in solid or liquid form prior to activating machine. Breaks seals that hold plastic product in molds, using hand tool, and removes product from mold. Ability to work overtime as scheduled. Reports defect in molds to supervisor. Trims flashing from product. Stacks molded parts in boxes or on conveyor for subsequent processing. Ability to run multiple machines. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Manual dexterity and mechanically inclined. Basic understanding of computer based machine controls. Must have basic manufacturing/quality knowledge and be able to use simple measuring devices.

Education and/or Experience:

High school graduate or GED required. Previous manufacturing experience not required but desirable.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Basic English communication skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) to be able to communicate and discuss with English speaking internal and external customers.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deal with a problem involving a few concrete variables. The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order. Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
