SUMMARY

The Assistant Manager, Fuel Merchandising & Operations serves as a key resource for store and operations teams by providing strategic, operational, analytical, and financial support for the fuel department across all Tops Markets fuel locations. This role partners closely with leadership to drive profitability enhancement, procurement strategy, cost optimization, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and fuel technology modernization while building the knowledge and experience necessary for future leadership opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct regular fuel site visits to evaluate fuel operations, merchandising execution, safety, environmental compliance, and overall site conditions. Provide detailed site recaps focused on areas of opportunity with specific attention to safety and environmental aspects.
  • Assist with fuel procurement activities, pricing strategy, & supplier management initiatives to support competitive positioning and profitability.
  • Monitor fuel cost trends, supplier economics, margins, shrink, maintenance costs, and operational performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for cost optimization
  • Prepare reports and analyses that support strategic planning and business decision-making.
  • Partner with Finance and Store Operations teams to support strategic initiatives, operational efficiencies, and profitability enhancement programs.
  • Support regulatory and environmental compliance, including inspections, documentation, permitting, resolution of regulatory inquiries/issues, and reporting requirements across all operating states.
  • Maintain knowledge of current fuel technology platforms, payment systems, environmental systems, and emerging industry trends to support modernization initiatives.
  • Support implementation of new technologies, automation tools, and operational systems across the fuel network.
  • Support training and development of store associates and operations teams to ensure that all programs, certifications, safety, and environmental best practices are adhered to.
  • Ensure fuel merchandising programs and plan-o-grams are consistently executed across all locations to meet specific initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with strong follow-up and follow-through skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other PC-based applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, develop effective solutions, and implement corrective actions
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel regularly to fuel locations throughout the operating area
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • College degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a retail grocery environment with knowledge of fuel operations
  • Working knowledge of fuel operations, merchandising, and retail business practices preferred
