Job Description:


The Head of Operations at Cloth & Paper provides strategic oversight and hands-on leadership across all operational functions โ€” including warehouse fulfillment, inventory management, packaging, shipping, logistics, and facilities. This role drives continuous improvement through the lenses of safety, service, cost optimization, quality, and compliance. The Head of Operations owns Cloth & Paperโ€™s operational infrastructure and technology systems, ensuring the business can scale efficiently and deliver an exceptional customer experience.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Warehouse & Fulfillment Operations


โ€ขย Drive operational excellence by managing production, productivity, and quality standards across all fulfillment functions.

โ€ขย Partner with warehouse, packaging, and procurement department managers to develop and monitor continuous process and technology improvements.

โ€ขย Prepare operations for peak season fulfillment including temporary labor hiring, scheduling, and management.

โ€ขย Develop and refine warehouse layout, product flow, and product handling systems to optimize throughput and accuracy.

โ€ขย Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards across all warehouse and facility spaces.

โ€ขย Own standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all warehouse and fulfillment processes; review and update quarterly.


Supplier & Inventory Operations


โ€ขย Conduct audits that analyze crucial areas of the business, identify pitfalls in replenishment and procurement, and create action plans for optimizing inventory productivity and investment.

โ€ขย Oversee inventory management, receivables, and cycle count programs to maintain accuracy targets.

โ€ขย ย Monitor lead times, stock levels, and out-of-stock exposure, escalating risks and solutions proactively.


Logistics & Shipping Operations


โ€ขย Develop and execute a comprehensive ecommerce shipping strategy that balances customer delivery promise with target cost per order.

โ€ข Optimize both front-end (customer experience) and back-end (carrier management) shipping processes.

โ€ขย Own continuous improvement initiatives for shipping difficulties, damage rates, and carrier performance.

โ€ขย ย Review carrier performance monthly and maintain active partnerships with courier contacts to negotiate rates and service improvements.

โ€ขย Monitor and report on fulfillment cost per order, shipping cost per order, and packaging cost per unit against targets.


Technology & Systems


โ€ขย  Serve as the primary software and systems administrator and technology resource for all operational departments.

โ€ขย ย Lead evaluation, implementation, and optimization of operational software including WMS, OMS, and related tools.

โ€ขย ย Partner with leadership to assess AI and automation opportunities within operations to drive efficiency.

โ€ขย ย Ensure data integrity across operational systems and provide reporting visibility to leadership.


Safety & Facilities


โ€ขย ย Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures in compliance with legal regulations.

โ€ขย ย Secure property by developing and enforcing protection and access policies and procedures.

โ€ขย ย Partner with the Warehouse Manager to prioritize repairs and maintenance needs to maintain facility integrity.

โ€ขย ย Conduct regular safety audits and training; track and report on safety incidents and near-misses.


Leadership & Team Development


โ€ขย ย Set clear goals and KPIs for all team members; provide regular, structured performance feedback.

โ€ขย ย Support employee development through coaching, training, and addressing performance issues.

โ€ขย ย Hire, onboard, and develop operational team members to meet organizational needs.

โ€ขย ย Prepare and execute action plans to systematically accomplish operational goals and stay on target.

โ€ขย ย Collaborate with the HR & Leadership Support function for staffing needs, onboarding, and employee relations matters within Operations.

Minimum Qualifications

โ€ข High school diploma or educational equivalent.

โ€ข 8+ years of experience in warehouse, fulfillment, or operations management.

โ€ข Experience with ecommerce fulfillment operations, preferably in a DTC or subscription-based environment.

โ€ข Reliable transportation to the Henrico, VA office.



Additional Desired Qualifications

โ€ข Past E-Commerce DTC brand or 3PL experience strong desired

โ€ข Degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or a related field.

โ€ข Six Sigma certification.

โ€ข OSHA compliance experience.

โ€ข Experience with WMS, OMS, or ERP platforms.

โ€ข Prior experience leading or mentoring colleagues in a warehouse or operations environment.

โ€ข Prior experience in small to medium-sized businesses, particularly within an EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) environment or similar, is strongly preferred.
