TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION: Business Development Manager,ย Translational Oncology Solutions

REPORTING LOCATION: Remote, West Coast USย 

REPORTING MANAGER:ย ย Executive Director, Business Development

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:ย 

This individual is responsible for proactively uncovering new business opportunities, opening doors with prospective customers, and building a strong pipeline of new business to support the growth of Champions Oncology's translational oncology solution portfolio.

The successful Business Development Manager combines scientific curiosity and resilience to develop new and deeper client relationships through prospecting, networking, and consultative scientific engagement. Working closely with prospective clients, they help solve complex research challenges while serving as a trusted scientific partner to life science organizations developing the next generation of therapies.ย Champions' Business Development Manager identifies and engages new biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients across the West Coast.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a pipeline of new biotechnology and pharmaceutical customers through scientific networking, thoughtful outreach, and curiosity-driven prospecting.
  • Meet with researchers and biotech leaders to understand their drug discovery challenges and introduce Champions' translational oncology solutions.
  • Learn to translate complex scientific problems into customized research proposals, with mentorship from experienced commercial and scientific leaders.
  • Own opportunities from first conversation through proposal development and close, developing the skills to become a successful technical sales professional.
  • Partner closely with Medical Affairs, R&D, and Operations to deliver outstanding scientific and commercial support.
  • Maintain an organized pipeline using CRM tools while developing strong territory planning and business development fundamentals.
  • Travel approximately 25โ€“30% to visit clients and attend scientific conferences.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Strong scientific foundation with an understanding of cancer biology, genetics, drug discovery, and preclinical research.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
    • Curious, proactive, and highly motivated to build a career in technical business development.
    • Passion for networking, building relationships, and creating new business opportunities.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • PhD, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or a related life sciences discipline, with relevant experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, CRO, or academic research. This position is well suited for a recent PhD graduate or an early-career life sciences professional.
    • Strong scientific understanding of drug discovery, oncology, genetics, or translational research gained through education or industry experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific concepts and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Previous business development, sales, customer-facing, or commercial experience is a plus but not required
