The Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is currently seeking talented candidates for an Fabrication Technician at our Silver Springs, NV location. At NATC, our fabrication team supports a team of people who design, manufacture, and test innovative automotive solutions.

Founded in 1957, the Nevada Automotive Test Center (NATC) is a privately owned, independent test, evaluation, design and engineering facility offering development and testing to customers worldwide. NATC operates 6,600 acres of test courses, discrete test events, environmental chambers, shops, instrumentation facilities and blast and ballistic test areas to create an unparalleled testing area available to our staff to innovate and solve our customer?s problems.

POSITION SUMMARY:

NATC is looking for a talented fabrication technician to weld, build, assemble, install, and repair parts, products and equipment. The fabrication technician fully analyzes all required blueprints, drawings, work orders, specifications and sketches in order to fabricate, shape, weld, repair and install desired products and/or parts. The successful candidate should have the ability to detect errors and correct through proper procedures and channels, plan and properly lay-out work using a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments and perform set-up and operate industrial machinery and equipment on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensures maintenance, fabrication and welding actions performed are in accordance with fabrication directives.
  2. Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, design specifications, blueprints, SAE and metric drawings, prints etc.
  3. Use hand welding and flame-cutting equipment to weld together metal components and parts or to cut, trim, or scarf metal objects to dimensions, as specified by layouts, work orders, or blueprints.
  4. Position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  5. Locate and repair cracks in equipment using inspection equipment and processes.
  6. Accurately estimates hours and materials for scheduled jobs.
  7. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
  8. Performs related tasks such as thermo cutting and grinding.
  9. Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts.
  10. Maintains records of actions performed on test and/or support vehicles.
  11. Works effectively with Engineering, Test Technicians, Mechanics, and Customers in recommending design enhancements and productivity improvements.
  12. Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  13. Inspects finished product for conformance to specifications.
  14. Responsible for shop cleanliness and safety.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform tests in the field.
  2. Assist in special projects.
  3. Operate company vehicles in support of test operations.
  4. Assist Maintenance shops with minor maintenance and pay-loading vehicles.
