Job Title: Assistant Operator
Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Department: Production
Summary of Job
Under the direction of the Operator, oversees the production of high-quality products at the lowest cost while meeting company standards, customer specifications, and delivery requirements.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist the operator and assistant operator (if applicable) to ensure all quality checks are completed and production orders are produced according to specifications.
  • Assist lead with cycle counts to ensure necessary supplies are available, including but not limited to bags, cores, labels, boxes.
  • Grind scrap material to be reused or disposed of.
  • Manages solvent, glue, and oil areas safely and orderly. Change glue totes as required and assist press crews in obtaining consumables.
  • Responsible for maintaining housekeeping in area of work including but not limited to maintaining an orderly and efficient warehouse space for inventory, and ensuring area is clean, free of debris and spills. Ensures proper containment and packaging of waste and oil products.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and work regulations including the use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follows all safety rules.
  • Report any accident, incident or near miss to the Team Lead, Supervisor, Manager or Plant Manager.
  • Attend meetings and complete safety training as required. Report all hazardous conditions to the Lead, Production Supervisor, or Plant Manager immediately for corrective action.
  • Actively engages in apprenticeship programs for continuous self-improvement.
  • Maintain good employee relations.
  • Adhere to Company policies and procedures. Refer all employee relations issues to the Lead, Production Supervisor, or Plant Manager.
  • May be assigned to different production lines and areas as needed per company demand.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Competency (Knowledge, skills, and abilities)
  • Ability to read a tape measure and document quality readings.
  • Good mathematical skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including ability to operate a forklift and other Powered Industrial Vehicles in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to take coaching well and communicate respectfully with others to ensure and promote a positive teamwork culture.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with team members including employees on the previous or following shift during shift transition.
  • Knowledgeable about safety requirements and guidelines in manufacturing/warehouse environments.Must be safety conscious, able to understand and adhere to all Department and Plant rules, regulations, and notices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow standardized work instructions and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement culture.

Environment
  • Non airconditioned, indoor environment. Heat may exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Humidity may exceed 80%.
  • Noise may exceed 85dB+.
  • Work around and with manufacturing machinery, exposure to moving equipment.

Physical Characteristics:
  • Frequent standing, up to 12 hours. At times standing may exceed 12 hours.
  • Walking, stooping, squatting, up to 75%.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, twisting
  • Occasional stair/ladder climbing.
  • Frequent and repetitive use of shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, elbows, wrist, hands, and fingers.

Position Type
  • Full time, hourly, non-exempt.
  • Shift work (2-week rotating shifts, 12 hour shifts on rotations and 6 hours each Wednesday).
  • Overtime per business demand.

Education and Experience
  • A High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience required.
  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing and/or warehouse environment preferred.
  • Must have stable work history.
