Job Description
Position Summary: The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day transportation operations across a multi-branch distribution network. This position ensures the efficient movement of domestic and international shipments while maintaining high service levels, controlling freight costs, and supporting operational excellence.
The Logistics Manager will work closely with branch personnel, customer service, purchasing, warehouse operations, accounting, and carrier partners to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of customer orders. This role requires strong organizational skills, transportation knowledge, and the ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced distribution environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:includes the following, as well as other duties that may be assigned.
  • Develop and execute transportation strategies that improve service levels while reducing freight spend.
  • Coordinate domestic and international shipments utilizing:
    • Less-Than-Truckload (LTL)
    • Full Truckload (TL)
    • Small Package (UPS, FedEx, DHL, USPS)
    • Air Freight
    • Ocean Freight
    • Expedited shipments
  • Oversee international shipments with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with national and regional carriers.
  • Negotiate freight contracts and annual carrier agreements.
  • Evaluate carrier performance through KPIs including:
    • On-time delivery, claims ratio, damage rates, transit times, cost per shipment
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations such as DOT, Hazardous Materials, International shipping regulations, Export regulations
  • Manage an internal logistics team while promoting continual growth and improvements within the department
  • Develop, mentor and train team to ensure compliance to all current domestic and international shipping laws and regulations regarding proper transportation of products and good.
  • Evaluate and review set performance expectations to ensure continual growth and improvement.
  • Develop and work within annual transportation budgets.
  • Analyze freight trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Evaluate, interpret, code and post freight bills
  • Find cost savings through continuous evaluation of carriers and shipping trends
  • Provide transportation support to all branch locations.
  • Develop and maintain standard shipping procedures.
  • Work closely with warehouse teams to improve shipping efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Accounting to meet customer requirements.
  • Improve customer delivery performance.
  • Standardize transportation practices across all branches.
  • Develop contingency plans for transportation disruptions.
  • Reduce transportation costs while maintaining customer service.
  • Improve shipment accuracy and on-time performance

Education and Experience: (Required and preferred educational and experiential qualifications)
  • Bachelor's Degree in one of the following:
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Logistics
    • Business Administration
    • Operations Management
    • Industrial Engineering
  • 5 + years of progressive transportation and logistics experience.
  • 5+ years managing multi-site logistics operations.
  • Experience supporting multiple distribution facilities.
  • Experience managing both domestic and international transportation.
  • Experience negotiating national carrier contracts.
  • Experience managing LTL, TL, parcel, and international shipping.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
