As a Risk Manager for PULSE Operations at Capital One, you won't just monitor risk-you will partner with business leaders to actively shape our defense strategies, ensuring the company remains stable, resilient, and profitable.
We are seeking highly motivated Risk Management professionals who blend sharp organizational prowess, data-driven analytical skills, and exceptional communication. In this role, you will enjoy significant exposure across core operations and product teams, empowering you to design, champion, and implement progressive frameworks that safeguard our enterprise.
Responsibilities:
  • Framework & Compliance Governance: Oversee the operational risk management framework, internal controls, and compliance monitoring specifically for PULSE Operations.
  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, and reputational risks across complex business processes.
  • Strategic Partnership: Partner with cross-functional teams, product managers, and business leaders to drive continuous process improvements and elevate risk maturity.
  • Control Mechanism Design: Design and implement robust control mechanisms and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to proactively detect and neutralize operational vulnerabilities.
  • Audit & Assessment Leadership: Lead rigorous risk assessments and audit remediation efforts, ensuring flawless alignment with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Leverage advanced data analysis to uncover underlying trends, thoroughly analyze risk events, and deliver actionable, strategic insights to senior leadership.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or Data Analytics
  • At least 4 years of experience in Data Analysis, including translating complex data into strategic risk insights
  • At least 3 years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, or Legal within the financial services industry
  • At least 2 years of experience in Project Management or Process Management

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Business, Finance or Data Analytics
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience using data technical stacks (such as Python, R, Spark, or SQL) to automate risk reporting or analyze large datasets
  • Professional certification in Business Process Management (BPM), Lean, or Six Sigma
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a proven track record of influencing senior leadership and driving organizational change
  • At least 4 years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, or Legal within the financial services industry.
  • At least 4 years of experience in Project or Process Management

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Houston, TX: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
