Job description

About the Team
OpenAI is building a world-class customer and ecosystem risk program to support our global growth across enterprise, API, advertising, and strategic partnership channels. We're hiring a Third Party Risk Manager (GTM) to help scale customer risk operations, KYC/KYB onboarding, and sanctions screening across a rapidly expanding global customer and supplier ecosystem.
About the Role
This role is highly operational and cross-functional. You'll work closely with Legal, Security, Finance, Procurement, GTM Systems, and Sales teams to operationalize scalable risk controls without slowing the business down. You'll help design and improve onboarding workflows, drive customer and supplier sanctions screening operations, support complex escalations, and integrate risk tooling into business processes at scale.
We're looking for someone who combines operational rigor with strong judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead day-to-day execution of customer and advertiser risk reviews, KYC/KYB onboarding, sanctions screening, and enhanced due diligence workflows across global customer populations.
  • Manage lifecycle risk operations from onboarding through monitoring, escalation, reassessment, and offboarding for customers, advertisers, and strategic counterparties.
  • Oversee sanctions screening operations across both customer and supplier populations, including development of automated screening workflows, escalation management, adverse media review, and disposition governance.
  • Build and operationalize scalable customer risk and sanctions screening procedures and governance frameworks aligned to OpenAI's risk tolerance and evolving regulatory expectations.
  • Partner closely with Legal, Security, Procurement, Finance, and GTM teams to integrate risk controls into onboarding and operational workflows.
  • Lead integration and optimization efforts across systems such as Salesforce, Persona, screening providers, workflow automation tools, and internal platforms.
  • Develop dashboards, metrics, SLAs, and reporting mechanisms to provide leadership visibility into customer risk operations and screening effectiveness.
  • Support investigations and escalations involving sanctions concerns, suspicious activity, fraud indicators, regulatory inquiries, or customer misuse scenarios.
  • Build repeatable operational playbooks for onboarding, sanctions screening, adverse media review, and escalation handling.
  • Identify opportunities to automate workflows and improve operational scalability without compromising control effectiveness.
  • Explore and deploy AI tools to enhance and streamline OpenAI's trade compliance efforts.

You might thrive in this role if you have:
  • 6+ years of experience in customer risk operations, KYC/KYB, AML, sanctions compliance, third-party risk management, or related operational risk functions, with a particular focus on building scalable sanctions compliance processes.
  • Experience operating scalable onboarding, screening, and case management workflows in high-growth environments.
  • Strong understanding of sanctions regimes, KYC/KYB requirements, AML concepts, export controls, adverse media screening, and customer due diligence frameworks.
  • Sophisticated understanding of how U.S. and international sanctions laws apply to multinational companies operating globally.
  • Experience integrating or optimizing systems such as Persona, Salesforce, OneTrust, workflow automation platforms, or similar operational tooling.
  • Strong analytical and operational problem-solving skills with the ability to make risk decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance business enablement and effective control execution.
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset with strong attention to detail and ability to operate independently in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience supporting high-growth technology, AI, fintech, advertising, payments, marketplace, or platform businesses.
  • Experience building customer risk or KYC operations programs from early-stage or scaling environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise customer onboarding and global go-to-market operations.
  • Experience working with sanctions screening vendors, adverse media tooling, or identity verification providers.
  • Certifications such as CAMS, CRCM, CTPRP, or similar.

Compensation Range: $162K - $180K USD
