Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) has an opportunity for a motivated, forward-thinking, and dedicated individual as an Operations Manager for our Milling division based in Springbrook, AB. P&H MillingP&H is the largest Canadian-owned milling company. The P&H Milling Group sources wheat from Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada to produce quality flour and cereal products. The lineup includes hard red spring wheat flour for breads and other bakery products, soft winter wheat flour for cakes and cookies, as well as semolina flour for pasta, organic flour, and atta flour for chappati. In our specialty milling operation in Saskatoon, we also mill pea fractions.

Your RoleThe Operations Manager provides leadership and coaching to the site management team in executing plant operations, continuous improvement initiatives, and strategies in achieving optimum productivity and efficiency while also ensuring effective implementation and enforcement of the standards and requirements of Environmental, Health and Safety; and Quality Management System/Food Safety program. Reporting to the National Operations Manager, the successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of the Pulse industry and be a dynamic leader who promotes and maintains strong relationships with employees and customers.  Day to Day
  • Provide leadership and direction to the team, ensuring that the plant runs at the highest efficiency and productivity in producing consistent top quality finished products.
  • Monitor and analyze overall operational performance, identify deviations and deficiencies, and establish corrective actions and continuous improvement program.
  • Implement and enforce/re-enforce all pertinent site, corporate, and federal policies, and standards.
  • Responsible for providing a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors by complying with pertinent Company and Federal health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Responsible for ensuring full compliance with BRC and Food Safety standards and customer quality requirements and audits.
  • Develop, monitor, manage and control operating expenses effectively to ensure compliance to fiscal year operating budget plan.
  • Develop, propose, and manage capital projects with the expectation to achieve project completion on time and within budget.
  • Hire, train, develop and perform performance management and evaluation, conflict resolution, disciplining/corrective action, and coaching.
  • Build, promote and foster effective relationships with employees through strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and career development support to Operations team.
  • Collaborate, communicate, and support effective partnership with corporate stakeholders in satisfying and complying with the overall business requirements and initiatives.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to the local team and support teams in addressing and resolving gaps that require resolutions.
  • Collaborate and support other sites on troubleshooting needs and on adapting and implementing best practices and business process requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably in flour milling or grain processing industry, with at least 5 years in managerial role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proven analytical skills and experience in continuous improvement/Lean tools and program.
  • Knowledgeable in industry standards, practices, and technologies.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop employees.
  • Experience in labor relations, working and dealing with an organized workforce is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in budgeting and managing operating and capital expenditure.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong Project Management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to travel.
