The Operational Excellence (OE) Manager will be a part of the global team of OE Managers reporting to the Global OE Manager. They will lead Operational Excellence, regulatory compliance and other audits.  Uses strong background in manufacturing and/or health, safety and environmental (HSE) to evaluate conformance to company operating standards and appropriate health, safety and environmental regulations. Coaches and develops auditors performing Corporate Operational audits and site self-assessments.  Drives global consistency in the application and assessment of the Operational Excellence Management System.  Provides risk assessment and analysis to prioritize improvement efforts in risk reduction and efficiency.  Develops and enhances Excellence Models and process to improve performance.  Develops tools and actions KPIs for continuous risk reduction efforts.  Champions continuous improvements efforts in processes and areas of responsibility. Provides recommendations to facility and senior management regarding conformance and effectiveness of closure plans.

The candidate could be based in any location in the US LYB sites/offices, with availability to travel in region or globally 30-40% of the time.

A Day in the Life
  • Leads OE Management System improvement efforts globally to more efficiently and effectively reduce risk.
  • Leads interdisciplinary teams of 6 to 20+ people, including senior manufacturing and technical support staff managers in operations, maintenance, HSE and technical fields, on operational excellence audits of our facilities.  
  • Communicates effectively and objectively with facility manager and staff.
  • Develops tools to assist sites and auditors to proactively identify performance issue and departure for standard requirements.  
  • Provides organization leadership to create and improve the development and integration of OE processes into business units and manufacturing facilities.
  • Working with the OE team, leads and supports the development, implementation and maintenance of a Company-wide audit program focused on the identification and understanding of significant gaps between current operations and the Company standards, to create continuous improvement.  
  • Leads the advancement of the Operational Excellence culture throughout the Company via communication, recognition, education and assistance.
  • Supports the development, review and revision of Operational Excellence Standards to improve company performance.
  • Drives global alignment of Operational Excellence process and facilitates Operational Excellence Preferred Practice implementation.
  • Documents findings, provides recommendations and prepares assessments of the effectiveness of systems in place.  Conveys these conclusions to senior management via written audit reports.
  • Drives system and performance enhancements to further identify and reduce risk.
  • Identifies and implements efficiency and effectiveness improvements to OEMS processes.
  • Provides coaching to owners of assigned Excellence Models (Operational Excellence Standards) and associated Networks.
  • Provides coaching to owners of assigned manufacturing sites on Operational Excellence Model updates and action items associated with audits, peer to peer assessments and self-assessments.
  • Assists in the analysis of process performance to identify best practices and areas of opportunity.
You Bring This Value
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical degree equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 years of chemical or refining manufacturing experience, advanced degree accepted in lieu of relevant experience
  • Substantial knowledge of chemical, processing or refining plant maintenance, operations and/or HSE.  Experience in other functional areas is also desirable
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including executive management
    Ability to lead through influence, and manage and direct an audit team
    Analytical skills and the ability to translate data in to leveraging action
    Business focus to ensure value adding activities are captured and implemented
  • Willingness to travel up to 30-40% in region or globally at times to perform/lead audits and assist sites.

  • Knowledge and experience with internal software packages used in the role such as Documentum, TKM 2.0 and Intelex is desirable
