Department Overview

Electric Operations ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Electric Operations Team is responsible for ensuring the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through the ongoing maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of Transmission lines. Coworkers in Electric Operations actively engage in the Lean Methodology through the use of visual management in operating reviews to cross-functionally identify and solve problems, and create standard work. Position Summary

The Operations Data Analyst extracts operations data for analysis, leadership support and responses to ad hoc data requests. The incumbent maintains operations tools & databases ensuring that it is kept up-to-date using data from various PG&E systems. They develop, maintain and enhance operational metric database tools for the broader analytics team(s). The Analyst identifies and solves current gaps in data requirements and ease of access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries.

  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Manages data management projects from initial request to presenting data results ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on-time.
  • DATA PROCESSING: Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing.
  • DATA EXTRACTS AND FILE TRANSFERS: Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts.
  • DATA ANALYSIS: Analyzes data using various statistical tools to develop ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles.
  • REPORTING: Develops and communicates clear, concise and actionable data analyses for clients

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. Position will require an in office presence 1-2 days a week in Dublin.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Bay Minimum: $126,000
Bay Maximum: $200,000

CA Minimum: $120,000
CA Maximum: $190,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages complex data analysis projects with limited supervision on only the most complex projects from initial request to presenting data results ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on-time.
  • Designs data analysis to achieve business objectives, process data, analyze data, write clear and concise data findings and tailor communications to specific audiences. Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing.
  • Manages very complex data extracts and list pulls ensuring data accuracy. Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts
  • Analyzes data using various advanced statistical tools to develop complex ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles.
  • Demonstrates and utilizes broad expertise in data processing and data analysis and applies this knowledge to a number of different issues.
  • Provides new and innovative solutions and recommendations to enhance database(s) with new data sources and improved data processes.
  • Develops comprehensive reports and communicates clear, concise and actionable data analyses for clients.
  • Acts as team lead and provides direction to less experienced employees.
  • Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering or other related field or equivalent work experience 
  • Job-related experience, 6 years

Desired:

  • Masters Degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with utility operations.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA)
  • Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects
  • Experience with Python and Python libraries (Pandas, Statsmodels)
  • Strong knowledge of base-SAS and programming language such as Visual Basic, Perl, C
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
