Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the OR RN Coordinator and OR Director, the Orderly is responsible for support services as well as specific elements of direct patient care given in the Surgical Department.  The Orderly assists with surgery flow (turnover of surgical suites), assures that adequate supplies are available as needed, cleaning, trash disposal, and any other duties assigned by his/her Coordinator or the Director of Surgical Services.

Job Description and Duties:

Provides direct patient care by assisting patients with changing linens, ambulation, and transport. Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment. Assists during patient examinations and procedures.  and Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical and/or procedural services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations

  • Assist with room turnover and preparation for following procedures in a timely manner
  • Collect and properly dispose of all wastes including biohazardous materials
  • Assists with limited patient care in the operating, recovery, and procedure rooms as needed, specified, and directed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Orders and stocks supplies for the areas assigned
  • Weekly and monthly cleaning of designated areas as assigned by Infection control Nurse.
  • Provides assistance with continuous patient flow by providing pre-operative area with clean, made up stretchers and /or moveable recliners, as necessary
  • Assists with removal of dirty linens and placing trash in appropriate receptacles
  • Maintain patient/facility confidentiality at all times
  • Assist nurses as assigned
  • Assists with the safe transfer of patient to gurney
  • Assists with routine care, maintenance, and troubleshooting of designated equipment and devices
  • Assists with the rotation, receiving, checking of out dates and storage of supplies
  • Participates in quality assurance / performance improvement program
  • Participates in activities as assigned to acquire and maintain accreditation
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of and compliance with safety policies and procedures, recognizes safety hazards, and initiate appropriate corrective and/or preventative measure.

Qualification:

  • Completion of high school education or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and follow instructions.
  • Current BLS. 
  • At least six months of experience as an Environment Attendant. Hospital experience preferred.
  • Possess the ability to follow established cleaning methods in performing daily tasks.
  • Possess the ability to perform routine repetitive cleaning of assigned OR rooms, offices, rest rooms and other areas.
  • Must be able to keep all equipment in good working condition.
  • Possess the ability to perform periodic or situational duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
