Job Summary:
The SCADA Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the SCADA Solutions Platform at Panasonic's Kansas Battery Manufacturing Facility. This role ensures seamless integration between control systems, hardware, and network components to support reliable monitoring and control of production processes. The Engineer develops HMI interfaces in SCADA Platform, develop supervisory control functions, integrates IIoTs, and manages data and maintain SCADA infrastructure configurations to optimize system performance, reliability, and data accuracy. Additionally, this position supports testing, validation, and compliance with industry standards while continuously improving system functionality and documentation. The SCADA Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to align system capabilities with operational and business objectives.
Essential Duties:
Functional Operations:
  • Develop and implement SCADA Solutions within SCADA Platform and system integration projects
  • Design and develop SCADA/HMI frameworks, including Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens for intuitive process monitoring and control, automation functions
  • Integrate Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and all IIoTs, systems, platforms, and applications for seamless data transfer with SCADA systems
  • Install and commission SCADA-related modules, program and utilize them
  • Perform database programming & data management, tag creation and management, and maintenance to support system functionality and maintain reliability and security
  • Write scripts or code to customize SCADA software for specific applications
  • Provide technical support, troubleshoot system issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure uptime and performance

Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement:
  • Keep software and firmware current to address security vulnerabilities and improve performance
  • Test, debug, and validate SCADA systems to ensure reliability, data accuracy, and optimal operation
  • Update and maintain operating and system standards, policies, and procedures
  • Apply technical knowledge to develop and document clear, standardized work instruction

Training & Team Support:
  • Collaborate with implementation partners and development teams to translate business requirements into functional system capabilities
  • Share technical expertise and provide guidance to team members and partners as needed

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and define system specifications
  • Work with business partners to define and deliver capabilities aligned with business and IT strategies

Quality, Safety, & Compliance:

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to contracted developers, ensuring deliverables meet quality and project standards; no direct supervisory responsibility for contractors

Education, Certifications, & Licenses:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

Preferred:
  • Master's degree Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
  • Inductive Automation Certified Developer (Inductive University)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), preferably with an industrial networking focus
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) or Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)

Essential Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience with SCADA design, programming, and commissioning in Ignition
  • Thorough understanding of tags, alarm pipelines, gateway servers, transaction groups, UDTs, Ignition templates and historizing data, UI/UX for HMIs and other SCADDA design standards
  • Proficiency in Python scripting (Java, HTML, CSS is a plus, not necessary)
  • Strong knowledge of networking principals as they apply to SCADA and control systems
  • Understanding of ladder logic
  • Experience programming, installing, and troubleshooting PLC systems, preferably Mitsubishi or Omron
  • Knowledge of Modbus, Ethercat, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, MQTT, OPC UA, and SQL, CLI, CI/CD
  • Understanding of electrical hardware, drawings, sequence control, and software design
  • Ability to cooperate effectively with related departments including overseas teams
  • Flexibility to solve issues using first principles thinking
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English

  • Experience with Agile project management methodologies and DevOps

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:
  • To ensure health and safety in the workplace and for employee protection, wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. A respirator fit test will be required based on functional area.
