Job description

Summary: The Assistant Press Operator assists the Press Operator and Lead Press operator in the basic setup and maintenance of the presses verifying proper paper sheet sizes and types. They are also responsible for ensuring that all presses are supplied and fed with required quantities of paper and other consumables.

Schedule: 2nd shift, Monday - Friday, eight or more hours per day, five days per week based on business needs. Primary schedule will be 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, or similar. Training may occur at other times.

Salary Range: $19.00 To 25.00 Hourly

Compensation commensurate with experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist press operators in setting up, adjusting, and maintaining printing presses to ensure optimal performance.
  • Load and unload paper, ink, and other materials onto the press, ensuring that stock is properly aligned and ready for printing.
  • Monitor print runs for quality, ensuring color consistency, proper alignment, and overall print quality. Report any issues to the press operator immediately.
  • Assist in mixing ink and maintaining proper ink levels for consistent color reproduction throughout production runs. Ensure that inventory levels for materials are regularly checked and maintained.
  • Identify minor technical issues with the press and assist in troubleshooting and resolving them under the guidance of the press operator.
  • Clean presses, rollers, and other equipment regularly to ensure optimal printing conditions and prevent malfunctions.
  • Provide general support to the production team, including preparing materials for upcoming jobs, organizing job orders, and ensuring that all tools and equipment are properly prepared and cleaned.
  • Actively remove waste items for recycling
  • Complete and process all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
  • Regularly perform general housekeeping duties in your work area(s)
  • Adhere to all safety policies and protocols and maintain a safe working environment
  • Assist in cultivating an interdependent safety culture by reporting workplace hazards, related injuries, illnesses and or/near misses to management immediately
  • Attend all department/company meetings
  • Wear all assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required
  • Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES:

  • 1 year experience of working within a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency, preferred

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Strong problem-solving skills when faced with unexpected challenges, such as machine malfunctions, material shortages, or errors in print quality. Ability to adapt to new printing technologies or changes in production schedules, ensuring smooth operations despite changes.
  • Time Management & Efficiency: Ability to manage multiple print jobs simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met without sacrificing quality. Organizing workflows, preparing materials in advance, and optimizing print runs for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in monitoring print jobs to ensure all details, such as color accuracy, image sharpness, and print placement, meet the required standards. Detecting small defects or inconsistencies during production and taking corrective action immediately.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to read and understand corporate policies, job-related documents, and written/verbal instructions in English to ensure effective and compliant job performance.
  • Strong foundational math skills, with the ability to perform basic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and efficient in managing time, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks accurately.
