The Opportunity

OPB is looking for a Member Center Representative to be the friendly, knowledgeable first point of contact for our listeners, viewers, and supporters. This team plays a vital role in connecting our audience with the news, stories, programs, and services they rely on, while delivering exceptional care to our members across OPB and KMHD.

As a Member Center Representative, you’ll assist members with questions about their accounts, provide support for OPB Passport, gather feedback about OPB’s content, and route inquiries to teams across the organization. This role is ideal for someone who is empathetic, curious, highly organized, and energized by helping others. You’ll use strong communication and writing skills, learn the ins and outs of OPB’s operations, and become an essential hub between our audience and our internal teams.

Position Details

This position is responsible for providing the best possible service to OPB members, listeners, viewers, custom and plays a key role in member retention, sustainer conversion, and donor acquisition.

Key responsibilities:

(1) Provide excellent service to OPB members and audiences

(2) Using a database, enter and update account information and interactions

(3) Grow and maintain OPB’s membership and prospect pool by gathering contact information and upgrading and recruiting members as part of daily member center interactions.

Responsibilities

45% - Respond to phone calls and emails from members and prospective members with particular attention to member satisfaction; research answers when necessary, actively gather contact information from customer and upgrade and recruit members and sustainers as part of daily Member Center interactions.

35% - Create and update database records in Salesforce/Servicecloud

    • Enter interactions into database in response to inquiries and requests
    • Enter, review, and maintain member contribution and contact information in membership database
    • Respond to member questions and comments attached to gifts and update database records accordingly

15% - Participate in ongoing training related to customer service and database procedures and share key information related to workload or member interactions with other team members and OPB staff as necessary

5% - Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position currently operates from home and must be actively available during OPB’s business hours (8-5, Monday through Friday) and makes extensive use of a computer and softphone technology. Work from home is considered temporary and may shift to in-office at the discretion of OPB’s senior leadership. There may be some evening or weekend work to help with special events. This position is remote within Oregon or Washington. OPB is currently licensed to operate in these states only, and candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Oregon or Washington.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of full-time experience providing customer service via phone, email and in person.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to engage in an authentic, professional and well-informed manner with OPB donors, leaders, potential donors, volunteers and staff.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Able to follow data security procedures and practices when handling confidential information.
  • Fluent use of standard computer software tools in business applications (Microsoft Office) and effective database skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible to demands of flow, volume, and nature of workload.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and maintain focus through competing priorities.
  • Outstanding verbal skills with an emphasis on phone-based service and communication.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely and courteously.
  • Ability to provide step-by-step technical support, particularly through verbal interactions.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse and dynamic group of people.
  • Motivated to contribute to a safe and equitable work environment with a willingness to participate in OPB’s ongoing diversity and equity work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of public media and its various platforms.
  • Experience with telephone and/or face-to-face sales.
  • Outstanding verbal skills with an emphasis on phone-based service and communication.
  • General knowledge of and appreciation for the services and mission of OPB.
  • Strong sense of empathy and patience.

Additional Information

    • This position reports to the Member Experience Manager, is union represented and benefits eligible.
    • In alignment with our organizational values, OPB has recently implemented a move to a minimum living wage as determined by the Living Wage Institute for all of our regular staff roles. Because of this, the expected hiring range for this role is between $28.17 and $29.20 per hour; compensation will depend on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
    • This position has access to highly sensitive data and therefore must pass a background check.
