What is an operations manager?

Operations Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a business or organization. They ensure that business processes run efficiently, manage staff, and implement policies to improve productivity and quality. Operations Managers often coordinate between different departments, handle budgeting, and work to streamline workflows. Their goal is to optimize organizational performance while maintaining high standards of service or product delivery.

Is operations manager a high paying job?

An operations manager typically earns a competitive salary that varies by industry, location, and experience level. In many regions, it is considered a well-paying role, especially for those with strong leadership, organizational skills, and relevant certifications. Salaries can range from moderate to high depending on the company's size and sector.

How does an operations manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth business processes?

Operations Managers play a central role in coordinating activities across multiple departments such as finance, HR, and production to streamline business operations. They often facilitate communication between teams, identify process bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve efficiency. Regular meetings, cross-departmental projects, and workflow analysis are common, making collaboration and strong interpersonal skills essential for success in this role.

Project Engineer Co-op

J.H. Findorff & Son Inc.

Tempe, AZ

Full-time

Posted 18 days ago

Job description

At Findorff, we bring expertise and value in construction that extends far beyond building. Since 1890, we’ve grown from humble beginnings into one of the Midwest’s most trusted construction firms – driven by strong relationships, high-quality work, and a commitment to the communities we serve.

Come join Findorff as a Project Engineer Co-op this Spring/Summer (January 2027 - August 2027) or Summer/Fall (May/June 2027 - December 2027).

What You’ll Do

The Project Engineer Co-op is located in Tempe, AZ working with our travel team. As a Project Engineer Co-op at Findorff, you’ll gain hands-on experience across all phases of construction from preconstruction through project closeout. This entry-level role is designed for students interested in the construction industry and offers exposure to Project Management, Field Operations, Preconstruction, and MEP teams. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals while building foundational technical, administrative, and leadership skills.

  • Support Project Teams: Assist with RFIs, submittals, document control, and project communication to help keep projects organized and moving forward.

  • Contribute to Project Coordination: Participate in team meetings, take meeting minutes, assist with short-term planning, and help coordinate with field staff, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Assist in Preconstruction & Estimating: Gain exposure to quantity takeoffs, bid package preparation, subcontractor outreach, and basic estimating activities.

  • Support Field Operations: Work with Superintendents to assist with material coordination, progress photos, safety walks, quality assurance, and punch list activities.

  • Learn Project Systems & Tools: Utilize tools such as Bluebeam and Procore while supporting document updates, tracking submittals, and compiling project information.

  • Build Professional Skills: Develop communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities while collaborating with project teams, clients, architects, and trade partners.

Why Findorff

  • Gain hands-on experience from day one by contributing to real projects, not just job shadowing

  • Work alongside experienced mentors invested in your learning and development

  • Job Site Visits across sectors like Education, Science & Technology, Multi-family, Corporate, and Healthcare to broaden your experience

  • Collaborative, people-first culture where your contributions are valued

Plus: competitive hourly pay, holiday pay, housing stipend, and structured intern program.

What We Are Looking For

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field, or relevant experience
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable using technology with strong computer skills
  • Interest in building a career in the construction industry

Diversity matters. Findorff recognizes the talents of all, appreciating the different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that make us a stronger company and partner for the communities we live and work in.

Findorff provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
