As of Jun 11, 2026, the average yearly pay for online tech pack designer in the United States is $80,265.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $65,000.00 and $92,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are online tech pack designers?

Online tech pack designers are professionals who create detailed digital documents, known as tech packs, that outline the design, materials, measurements, construction details, and specifications needed to produce a garment or product. These designers work remotely, using specialized software to develop and share these technical documents with manufacturers and development teams. Their role is crucial in the fashion and apparel industry, as tech packs help ensure that the final product matches the designer's vision and meets quality standards. By working online, they streamline communication and collaboration between brands, designers, and production partners worldwide.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Online Tech Pack Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Online Tech Pack Designer, you need a strong background in fashion design, garment construction, and technical drawing, often supported by a relevant degree or industry experience. Proficiency with design software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and tech pack platforms such as Techpacker or CLO3D is essential. Attention to detail, effective communication, and strong organizational skills are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and managing multiple projects. These competencies ensure accurate, production-ready tech packs that streamline the manufacturing process and minimize costly errors.

What are some typical challenges faced by Online Tech Pack Designers when collaborating with remote teams?

Online Tech Pack Designers often work with teams distributed across different locations, which can present challenges in clear communication and version control. Ensuring that all stakeholders—such as pattern makers, manufacturers, and product managers—have access to the latest tech pack updates is crucial. Designers frequently rely on collaborative platforms and must be proactive about clarifying specifications, addressing feedback promptly, and maintaining organized digital files. Building strong relationships with remote colleagues and setting up regular check-ins can help minimize misunderstandings and keep projects on track.

Job description

About Million Dollar Baby Co.
Million Dollar Baby Co. started in 1990 and is proudly family-owned and operated in Los Angeles. Since then, MDB has grown to 7 distinct brands of children's furnishings ranging in style, aesthetic, and price, while carrying some of the industry's most eco-conscious and award-winning designs. We can be found in retailers like Target and Amazon, and specialty retailers like Pottery Barn Kids and Crate & Barrel.
Under the Million Dollar Baby Co. parent company are our family of brands: Babyletto, daVinci, Nursery Works, and Namesake. We're proud to offer the most Greenguard Gold-certified cribs on the market and to use FSC-certified sustainable wood across our brands whenever possible. We've also pioneered Styrofoam-free packaging for several of our best-selling collections - an innovation that reduces waste while protecting our products during shipment.
At Million Dollar Baby Co., our team members are our #1 priority, and we partner with exceptional partners and retailers around the world who share our core values:
Treat Your Team Like Family - lead with respect, gratitude, empathy, and kindness.
Make an Impact, Drive Results - focus on meaningful work that moves families forward.
Deliver a "Wow" Customer Experience Every Time - every detail matters.
Strive for Continuous Improvement & Learning - keep growing, keep getting better.
Cultivate Quality Conversations - communicate honestly and thoughtfully to build trust.
Over the years, our commitment to people, innovation, and a positive workplace culture has earned us five consecutive "Best Place to Work" awards, one of the best workplaces by "Built in LA", a 4.6 rating on Glassdoor, and 13 years on the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies list - recognitions that reflect the heart of who we are and the community we're proud to build. We'd love to talk to you!
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Design original softgoods from concept to production-ready tech pack across bedding, blankets, cushions, soft toys, draperies, and rugs.
  • Develop and adapt designs across all six MDB Co. brands, with a primary focus on Babyletto and Namesake.
  • Build and maintain tech packs including construction details, material call-outs, colorways, trims, and tolerances.
  • Select and specify textiles, fills, hardware, and trims in collaboration with our sourcing team.
  • Work directly with overseas manufacturing partners in Asia, reviewing samples and communicating revisions clearly and precisely.
  • Develop seasonal color palettes and surface patterns that align with each brand's creative direction.
  • Stay current on softgoods trends in baby, nursery, and home categories and bring relevant insights to the team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, brand marketing, and merchandising to move products from concept to shelf.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and hit deadlines without needing to be chased.

What You Bring to The Table:
Required
  • 5+ years of experience designing softgoods for consumer products, home goods, baby/nursery, or a closely adjacent category.
  • Expert-level Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills. You use them daily to create original artwork and build clean, production-ready technical drawings.
  • Strong tech pack creation skills. You build complete packs from scratch, not from templates someone else made.
  • Deep knowledge of textiles and materials including fabrics, fills, weaves, thread counts, trims, and how they behave in production.
  • Experience with textile sourcing, including mill relationships, material specifications, and supply chain awareness.
  • Hands-on experience working with offshore manufacturing partners, reviewing samples, and redlining with precision.
  • A wide design range. You are equally comfortable designing into a clean, modern nursery aesthetic, an approachable traditional bedroom, and a layered maximalist interior.
  • Sharp eye for color, pattern, composition, and surface design.
  • Strong communication skills. You can present your work clearly and advocate for your design decisions.
  • You're able to manage a project by creating a schedule, tracking milestones and key decisions, understanding who needs to be updated, breaking bad news when necessary, and most importantly celebrating wins with the team!

Nice to Have
  • Experience with PLM software (e.g., Centric, Bamboo Rose, or similar).
  • Working knowledge of pattern-making or garment construction basics.
  • Experience designing for the baby or children's category specifically.
  • Familiarity with OEKO-TEX, GOTS, or other textile safety and sustainability certifications.

California pay range
$90,000-$105,000 USD
Our Benefits:
  • 100% of your health, dental and vision insurance monthly premiums paid by us!
  • Flexible PTO because we respect the need for work/life harmony
  • Company matching 401(k)
  • Vacation reimbursement and wellness and enrichment subsidy programs
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Matching charitable donations to the nonprofit organization of your choice
  • Company-wide monthly celebrations - lunch is on us!
  • Dog-friendly workplace, yes! You can bring your best friend to work
  • Free MDB Co. swag + generous employee discount on products
