What is the difference between Online Project Management Internship vs Online Project Coordinator?

AspectOnline Project Management InternshipOnline Project Coordinator
CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduate in related fieldRelevant experience or certification in project coordination
Work EnvironmentInternship setting, learning-focused, entry-level tasksFull or part-time remote role, managing ongoing projects
Employer UsageInternship programs in companies, educational institutionsCompanies across industries, managing project timelines and communication

The Online Project Management Internship is an entry-level, learning-focused position for students or recent graduates, often part of an internship program. In contrast, the Online Project Coordinator is a more experienced role responsible for coordinating project activities, schedules, and communication. While both roles involve project-related tasks, the internship emphasizes skill development, whereas the coordinator role involves managing real projects independently.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during an Online Project Management Internship?

During an Online Project Management Internship, you will typically assist with planning, organizing, and tracking progress on various projects, often using digital tools like Trello, Asana, or Microsoft Project. Interns may help coordinate meetings, take meeting notes, update project timelines, and communicate with team members to ensure tasks are completed on schedule. You can also expect to support the project manager with documentation, reporting, and sometimes client communications. This role offers exposure to cross-functional teamwork and the opportunity to develop both organizational and communication skills in a remote environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Online Project Management Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Online Project Management Intern, you need foundational knowledge of project management principles, organizational skills, and ideally some coursework or experience in business or management. Familiarity with project management tools like Trello, Asana, or Microsoft Project, as well as proficiency in virtual communication platforms, is highly beneficial. Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities help you collaborate effectively and adapt to remote teamwork dynamics. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring projects stay on track and objectives are met efficiently in a virtual environment.

What is an Online Project Management Internship?

An Online Project Management Internship is a temporary, remote position where interns gain practical experience in managing projects using digital tools and platforms. Interns typically assist with planning, organizing, and tracking project progress while collaborating with teams virtually. These internships provide exposure to real-world project management practices, software, and methodologies, and help build essential skills needed for a career in project management. They are suitable for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience while working from anywhere.

Job description

Are you looking for a construction project management internship that offers real-world, job site experience? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments, love problem-solving, and get energized by seeing your work take shape?

We’re seeking a get-it-done, organized, and proactive individual to join the LV Construction and Development team to support on-the-ground project management efforts for our latest student housing development called "Rambler Riverfront" next to the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, IN.

This is not your run-of-the-mill coffee-fetching internship. You’ll work directly with the Construction Manager and Director of Construction on day-to-day project execution — including field quality verification, RFI/Submittal management, and schedule reporting from Design through Construction Completion.

If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, learn from the best, and contribute to meaningful projects, this internship will give you real exposure to the full construction process.

Requirements

Project Support

  • Verify that all on-site work meets project contract documents during installation
  • Observe and report field progress and quality
  • Ensure no changes are made to project scope or plans without internal LV approval
  • Report project status and milestones to stakeholders and the project team
  • Prepare monthly reports and site visit summaries
  • Facilitate coordination with Contractors, Suppliers, Vendors, Architects, Consultants and Capital Partners
  • On-site support of construction activity observations, punchlist activities and furniture move-in
  • Post construction warranty and operational support

Coordination & Communication

  • Lead and coordinate weekly LV Construction Administration meetings between LV Construction and the Design Studio
  • Maintain and track action items, submittals, and RFIs
  • Support communication with leasing and marketing teams
  • Organize and distribute project documents through all phases of work

Project Tracking

  • Monitor progress of architects, consultants, and contractors
  • Support in maintaining project milestones and schedules
  • Adapt quickly as changes in scope or schedule arise
  • Maintain confidentiality of all project information

Other

  • Assist with other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Ability to work late or on weekends may be required
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, or a related field

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Project
  • Experience with Procore a plus

Business Skills

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management with ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with a positive, team-oriented attitude and a strong GSD (Get Stuff Done) mentality
Team & Work Schedule
  • On-site at the Ramble Riverfront construction site at least two times per week
  • Remote collaboration with Construction Manager/Director of Construction as needed
  • Full-time during summer months, part-time during the school year or as schedules allow

Benefits

Competitive hourly compensation.
