How much do online perfusionist jobs pay per hour?

As of Sep 4, 2026, the average hourly pay for online perfusionist in the United States is $85.94, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $67.07 and $93.99 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an online perfusionist?

An online perfusionist is a certified healthcare professional who manages and monitors heart-lung machines and other equipment remotely during cardiac surgeries or procedures. Through telemedicine platforms, online perfusionists can guide on-site medical teams, provide consultations, and help interpret data in real-time. This remote support can be crucial in facilities that may not have an in-house perfusionist, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes. Online perfusionists maintain the same certification and training standards as those working on-site, but use digital technology to deliver their expertise.

How does an online perfusionist collaborate with surgical teams during remote procedures?

As an Online Perfusionist, you play a crucial role in supporting surgical teams by remotely monitoring and managing extracorporeal circulation systems during procedures. You typically use secure telemedicine platforms to communicate in real-time with on-site medical staff, offering guidance, troubleshooting, and oversight. Close collaboration is essential, as you'll need to interpret data, respond to unexpected changes, and ensure patient safety alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other perfusionists. This setup requires strong communication skills and the ability to quickly adapt to evolving situations in a virtual environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online perfusionist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Online Perfusionist, you need a thorough understanding of cardiovascular perfusion, advanced medical knowledge, and certification as a Clinical Perfusionist (CCP). Familiarity with remote monitoring technologies, perfusion simulation software, and secure telehealth platforms is essential for virtual practice. Strong communication, critical thinking, and adaptability make professionals excel in remote patient care and collaboration with surgical teams. These skills and qualifications are vital to ensure patient safety and effective support during complex cardiac procedures conducted or guided remotely.

What is the difference between Online Perfusionist vs Cardiac Perfusionist?

AspectOnline PerfusionistCardiac Perfusionist
CredentialsCertified Perfusionist (CCP), advanced trainingCertified Perfusionist (CCP), specialized cardiac training
Work EnvironmentOperating rooms, remote monitoring setupsOperating rooms during cardiac surgeries
Industry UsageHospitals, clinics, telemedicine setupsHospitals, surgical centers

Online Perfusionists and Cardiac Perfusionists both require certification and work closely with cardiac surgeries. The main difference is that Online Perfusionists often provide remote support and monitoring, while Cardiac Perfusionists are physically present during surgeries. Both roles are vital in cardiac care, but Online Perfusionists offer flexibility through remote technology.

Can I become an online perfusionist?

Online perfusionists are typically involved in remote monitoring and support of extracorporeal circulation during surgeries, but the core training requires completing a perfusionist education program, obtaining certification, and gaining clinical experience. Most perfusionist roles are performed in hospital settings, and remote or online work is limited due to the hands-on nature of the job. Therefore, becoming an online perfusionist involves meeting standard certification and licensing requirements, with some roles potentially offering remote support options.

Is an online perfusionist in high demand?

Online perfusionists are in increasing demand due to the growth of minimally invasive and remote cardiac procedures. The role requires specialized training and certification, and job opportunities are expanding in hospitals and surgical centers that utilize advanced technology and telemedicine capabilities.
