Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics
Reports To: Chair, Division of Natural & Mathematical Sciences
Department: Division of Natural & Mathematical Sciences
Classification: Full-time, Salary Exempt, 9-months, Tenure-Track, Benefits Eligible
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Division of Natural & Mathematical Sciences at LeMoyne-Owen College invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position, to begin in August 2026. Preferred candidates will have a background in Applied Mathematics or a related field.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Effective teaching utilizing inclusive, data-driven pedagogies in the classroom
  • Provide research opportunities for undergraduate students in areas of Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline
  • Engage in professional development, collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to promote the college's mission and values, and serve on divisional and institutional committees

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's in applied mathematics, Statistics, or related field (doctorate preferred).
  • Evidence of experience teaching math courses to undergraduate students
  • Evidence of research experience in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Experience and/or training in inclusive teaching and mentoring practices
  • Demonstrable knowledge and application of Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related field in an undergraduate curriculum
  • A record of incorporating evidence-based pedagogy, such as active-learning techniques, and innovative use of instructional technology inthe classroom and/or online
  • A record of curricular development, effective verbal and written communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
  • The ability, desire, and skills to mentor undergraduate student research
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish an active research program that centers around the mentoring of diverse undergraduates and leads to peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience in teaching hybrid and/or online instruction

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICIAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle, or feel to talk and to hear. The employee, frequently, is required to walk, reach with hands and arms to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
