Position Summary
The University of St. Francis, a Catholic, Franciscan institution in Joliet, Illinois, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin August 2026. This is a full-time, nine-month position with a 24-credit-hour teaching load for the academic year. In addition to teaching program requirements for mathematics majors, the Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics will teach statistics courses designed for social science and business majors and lead the redesign and continuous improvement of general education mathematics offerings to promote success in quantitative literacy across the disciplines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate mathematics courses at all levels, including program requirements for mathematics majors and statistics courses for social science and business majors.
  • Lead the redesign and continuous improvement of general education mathematics curricula to strengthen quantitative literacy and support student success.
  • Collaborate with faculty across the university to ensure mathematics courses effectively support the needs of students in a variety of academic programs.
  • Participate in the administration, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the mathematics placement processes, including the interpretation and use of placement data to enhance student success.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate mathematics students regarding academic planning and career or graduate school preparation.
  • Contribute to assessment activities as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.
  • Proven experience teaching undergraduate mathematics, including core and advanced courses within the mathematics major; proficiency in teaching statistics courses designed for social sciences and business majors.
  • Willingness to support innovative approaches to quantitative literacy for undergraduate students.
  • Experience teaching in both face-to-face and online learning environments, with evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and a commitment to student-centered teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic backgrounds and levels of mathematical preparation, and commitment to fostering collaboration in support of ongoing curricular improvement and student achievement.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university.
Preferred Requirements
  • Evidence of successful teaching across face-to-face, hybrid, and online instructional modalities.
  • Experience administering or supporting mathematics placement processes, including the use of placement assessments and student success data.
  • Experience advising and mentoring students, including guidance on internships, career options, and undergraduate research.
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule
This is a full-time, nine-month position with a 24-credit-hour teaching load beginning August 2026.
Physical Requirements of Position
Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity
