Job description

ALC ISP Instructor

The Alternative Learning Center Independent Study Provider (ISP) Instructor supports students in earning academic credit through alternative pathways and credit recovery opportunities. This position focuses on individualized instruction, relationship-building, progress monitoring, and helping students achieve graduation requirements through an online learning platform and standards-based coursework.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and academic support to students enrolled in Independent Study and credit recovery courses.
  • Utilize the district-approved online learning platform to facilitate student learning and monitor progress.
  • Support students in developing academic goals, time management skills, and successful learning habits.
  • Set up and manage online courses to ensure alignment with district and state standards mastery requirements.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and intervene when students are not making adequate progress toward completion.
  • Award academic credit upon successful completion of coursework and demonstration of standards mastery.
  • Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, progress, attendance, grades, and credit completion.
  • Collaborate with counselors, administration, special education staff, and classroom teachers to support student success.
  • Communicate consistently with students, families, and staff regarding academic progress and expectations.
  • Assist students in creating individualized learning plans that support graduation pathways and post-secondary readiness.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and flexible learning environment for students with diverse academic and social-emotional needs.
  • Participate in student support team meetings and problem-solving processes as needed.
  • Support implementation of district policies, graduation requirements, and Alternative Learning Center programming goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records in accordance with district and legal requirements.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training related to alternative education, online learning, and student engagement strategies.

Qualifications

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license required.
  • Multi-licensed preferred.
  • Experience working with at-risk learners, alternative education students, or credit recovery programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of standards-based instruction and online learning systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.
  • Commitment to supporting student growth, persistence, and graduation success.
  • Willingness to obtain OFP or CCDP license as necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with competency-based or personalized learning models.
  • Familiarity with online curriculum platforms and data tracking systems.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and provide individualized academic support.
  • Experience supporting students with attendance, engagement, or credit deficiency concerns.
