Job Description Summary
The Instructional Designer is responsible for collaborating with and supporting faculty in optimizing their utilization of online learning tools to benefit instruction and student learning. Partnering with the faculty, program directors, and department chairs, the Instructional Designer coordinates the online course development process, providing insight and expertise based design standards established by Lewis University faculty and in line with best practices nationally.

Responsibilities
Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University's Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
-Advise, assist and collaborate with faculty in instructional design projects for online, blended, learning management system enhanced, and traditional learning environments.
-Apply research-based learning theory and proven instructional design principles to create engaging course designs within established department and professional processes for online, blended, learning management system enhanced, and traditional learning environments
-Coordinate instructional design projects from inception to completion including data collection and tracking, archiving and record keeping, process documentation, and regular reporting.
-Work with course developers one on one, providing guidance and feedback in designing, creating, and reviewing courses. Assess faculty members' course development needs and progress
-Proof course development at multiple stages and work with developers to make necessary changes
-Continuously explore new course design strategies, contemporary learning models and tools, accessibility standards and copyright regulations as it relates to course design
-Develop instructional materials and workshops related to course design for faculty and administrative staff in collaboration with the Faculty Center staff
-Participate in program/course assessment when necessary
-Serve on University committees as appropriate
-Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in related field. Two years experience in course design or curriculum development. Higher education teaching experience required and experience working with faculty in a higher education environment. Knowledge of instructional design theory and demonstrated understanding of technology that can assist faculty in course delivery. Experience with Learning Management System (LMS) and other instructional technologies. Project management skills. Independence, an ability to take initiative, adaptability, and high attention to detail. Collaborative work skills, particularly with faculty.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in Instructional Design or Instructional Technology highly preferred. 3-5 years instructional design experience in higher education, preferably at a four-year college or university. Demonstrated proficiency in adult learning theory and principles.
