Role Overview
The Network Engineer supports the firm's hybrid and cloud-based network infrastructure, analyzes and resolves network and systems issues, and provides escalation-level support to end users. This position is responsible for maintaining reliable connectivity across a modern SD-WAN environment, supporting multi-user platforms and cloud services, and ensuring production cycles are completed in a timely manner. The Network Engineer identifies and documents standards for the use and operation of network infrastructure, cloud services, and endpoint management solutions, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365, Azure, and the firm's ongoing migration from on-premises systems to SaaS and cloud-based platforms.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with network and infrastructure staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems that fulfill business objectives and processes.
• Manage and maintain the firm's network infrastructure including SD-WAN, LAN, WLAN, and Internet connections; monitor performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues across all sites.
• Configure, maintain, and manage SAN environment in the primary data center and co-location sites.
• Assist with monitoring network security to protect against external, internal, and programmatic threats using firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and security best practices.
• Deploy, configure, and manage endpoints using Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot, including application deployment, compliance policies, configuration profiles, and Windows update rings.
• Install, configure, and maintain VMware virtualized environments hosting Windows Server 2016 and newer.
• Administer and support the firm's Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams.
• Deploy, manage, and support Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including session host management, user profile configuration (FSLogix), and connectivity troubleshooting.
• Support the firm's cloud migration strategy by assisting with the evaluation, planning, and implementation of SaaS and cloud-based solutions to replace remaining on-premises services.
• Manage and maintain cloud-based backup and business continuity solutions across primary and secondary locations; ensure data protection for both on-premises and cloud workloads.
• Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
• Serve as an escalation point for systems and network operational issues.
• Assist with maintaining the primary data center, including all considerations for power management, temperature, humidity, and cabling.
• Support Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, and Group Policy within a hybrid identity environment.
• Administer network monitoring and alerting tools to ensure timely detection and response to network and systems issues.
• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, network diagrams, processes, and service records.
• Investigate emerging network and cloud technologies and provide recommendations regarding future adoption and related productivity or security gains.
• Respond to after-hours issues in a timely manner based upon severity and/or business impact.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of previous networking and infrastructure support experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
• Proven experience with LAN, SAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and WLAN design, configuration, and administration in Cisco and/or Meraki environments.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot for endpoint management, application deployment, and policy enforcement.
• Strong experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.
• Experience administering Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including session host deployment, user profile management, and performance optimization.
• Strong experience with Windows Server 2016 and newer, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Group Policy, and hybrid identity configurations.
• Experience with VMware virtualization technologies.
• Experience with NetApp hardware and software, including SnapMirror and SnapCenter solutions.
• Experience with cloud-based backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Azure Backup, or similar).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms, including IaaS and PaaS services.
• Understanding of cloud migration strategies and experience supporting transitions from on-premises infrastructure to SaaS and cloud-based platforms.
• Experience with network security for Windows Servers, firewalls, and Cisco, Fortinet and Meraki devices.
• Firm understanding of managing HP/HPE servers, Cisco Meraki wireless LAN controllers and access points.
• Industry certifications a plus (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified, Azure Administrator, CCNA, CompTIA Network+, VMware VCP).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines and business objectives.
• Strong communication and customer service acumen.
• Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.

The role is based in our Washington, DC office and requires an onsite work schedule five days per week. The base annual pay range for this role is between $110,000 - $120,000. The base pay to be offered will vary and depend on skills and qualifications, experience, location and will also take into account internal equity.
