About Us

Job Summary
The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for a Peer Advisor for the [campus name] campus. Peer Advisors will work closely with Professional Academic Advisors to provide general information to students, promote academic advising, and assist students in engaging with UNG's resources. Peer Advisors undergo intensive training to enhance leadership skills and learn UNG policies and procedures. Peer Advisors will work approximately 30 hours a semester, depending on availability and Advising Center needs.
Responsibilities
  • Represent Academic Advising at campus events such as Nighthawk Preview and at departmental events.
  • Develop and implement workshops such as Advising Appointment stations, Registration workshops, and other informational engagements.
  • Promote student services through outreach and marketing.
  • Learn and utilize Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and other systems such as Banner, Degree Works, Canva, and UNG Connect.
  • Aid students in resource utilization and connection during course scheduling, withdrawal, registration and add/drop periods.
  • Attend ongoing training as necessary (initial PA training, FERPA training, etc).
  • Attend scheduled meetings and events in a timely manner while being responsible for personal time sheet management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have strong communication skills, active listening skills, time management skills, as well as basic computer skills.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with UNG policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours as a current student in good standing with the university and must maintain a 2.75 GPA.
  • Must have completed at least twelve (12) credit hours at UNG by start-date. No employment history is required.
