Job Summary
The Budget Analyst is responsible for analyzing and monitoring financial and budgetary data for select institutional units. This position performs technical fiscal work in budget development and ensures the proper financial management of various fund sources. The Budget Analyst prepares, amends, and maintains institutional budgets; prepares financial reports; and adheres to established financial practices, policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
Responsibilities
Monitoring - 50%
Prepares, monitors, amends, and maintains institutional budgets to ensure accurate and up-to-date financial planning.
Trains and guides select institutional units on proper financial reporting practices, including revenues, salaries, fringes, and non-personal services.
Manages technical and transactional functions within OneUSG Connect (HCM) and PeopleSoft Financials to ensure accurate salary and fringe benefit reporting.
Conducts in-depth data analysis of budgetary and financial information to support decision-making in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Serves as a key resource for financial compliance and reporting accuracy across assigned departments.
Analyzing - 30%
Analyzes and interprets financial and budgetary data across select institutional units; monitors expenditures and revenue trends to identify potential budget variances; compiles and evaluates statistical information to support sound fiscal decision-making; and develops actionable budget recommendations aligned with institutional goals.
Serves as a key resource and liaison for campus partners and unit managers, providing guidance and collaborative solutions to budget-related inquiries.
Works to ensure financial accountability, transparency, and efficiency throughout the budgetary process.
Reporting - 15%
Prepares elements of various reports through the use of database systems and other Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) software for submission to department managers, institutional leadership, the University System Office, and regional and national organizations.
Ensures compliance with established financial practices, policies, guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
Other - 5%
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
Other Required Qualifications
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Required Experience
2-3 years of related work experience.
Proposed Salary
This position is a pay grade 8. The available salary range is $47,476.00 to $57,493.00. Starting salary within this range is based on relevant years of experience.
