Job description

The Onboarding Engineer collaborates closely with clients, project managers, and internal teams to ensure all technical onboarding activities are executed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with our quality standards. This includes assessing client environments, migrating systems, standardizing configurations, building documentation, and ensuring operational readiness for long-term managed support.mThe Onboarding Engineer is responsible for leading the technical implementation and onboarding of new clients into our managed services ecosystem. This role ensures a smooth, secure, and well-documented transition from the client’s existing environment into the standardized operational framework

Accountabilities

·        Lead the full technical onboarding process for new clients, ensuring a smooth transition into the managed services environment.

·        Perform comprehensive onboarding assessments, including infrastructure reviews, security evaluations, and technology baseline.

·        Plan, implement, and support onboarding activities such as:

o   Server migrations

o   Network standardization

o   Firewall and switch deployment

o   Microsoft 365 / Azure configuration

o   Remote access / VPN setup

o   Documentation development

·        Work directly with clients and third-party vendors to coordinate technology transitions, integrations, and handoffs.

·        Create, standardize, and maintain thorough documentation of client environments, ensuring accuracy and completeness before transition to ongoing support teams.

·        Ensure onboarding engagements are executed efficiently, on schedule, and aligned with high quality and security standards.

·        Serve as the primary technical point of contact throughout onboarding, providing guidance, updates, and clear communication to clients and internal teams.

·        Act as an escalation point for onboarding-specific technical issues that arise for System Specialists or other non-engineering resources.

·        Participate in internal technical meetings to resolve urgent issues, identify risks, and maintain continuity across departments.

·        Collaborate with team members to continuously refine and improve onboarding processes, tools, and templates.

·        Support cross-department initiatives that require onboarding expertise or high-level technical input.

·        Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

·        Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience in systems, networking, or cloud engineering, preferably within an MSP or multi-client environment.

·        Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, virtualization, and cloud platforms (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS).

·        Systems Administration: Proficiency with Windows Server, Active Directory, identity management, and related systems.

·        Networking: Skilled in configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies (Fortinet, Meraki, etc.).

·        Familiarity with MSP tools, cybersecurity principles.

·        Process Orientation: Strong ability to follow, refine, and optimize structured onboarding workflows and standards.

·        Communication: Clear, professional communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

·        Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues calmly and systematically.

·        Documentation: Ability to produce standardized, detailed technical documentation for internal and client use.

·        Certifications: One associate- or mid-level certification (ex: Network+, Security+, Azure Administrator, M365 Admin, CCNA, Fortinet, ITIL) or completion of a relevant certification within 90 days of hire. An IT or Computer Science degree may substitute this requirement.
