Getting hired as an on-train employee, such as a conductor or engineer, can be competitive and typically requires relevant experience, safety training, and sometimes certifications. Employers often look for strong communication skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to work in a demanding environment, which can make the hiring process challenging for some applicants.

How much money do you make working on a train?

Train conductors and engineers typically earn between $50,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and employer. Salaries for other train crew members, such as conductors or brakemen, generally range from $30,000 to $70,000 per year.
