Doctoral degree with significant wet lab experience conducted in a relevant discipline such as biochemistry, neuroscience, metabolism, or physiology.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
General Work Description
  • Seeking dedicated post-doctoral researcher with an interest and expertise for investigating the role of lipid metabolism in brain health. Projects will focus on manipulation of the enzymes that control the metabolism of omega-3 fatty acids in the brain using mouse models, possibly cell culture, and test-tube based experiments. The role of omega-3 fatty acid metabolic control in neurons for the susceptibility to neurodegenerative disease (involving alpha-synuclein/Parkinson's disease) will be investigated. Additionally, dopamine metabolism, mitochondrial function, and traumatic brain injury are all possible areas of investigation for the post-doctoral researcher.
  • Conduct and complete funded neuroscience research projects, including the design, execution, and analysis of experiments related to neurological function and disease (e.g., neurodegeneration/synucleinopathy, brain injury) using molecular, cellular, biochemical, behavioral and neuropathology approaches in mouse models and cell culture.
  • Direct and significant experience in rodent behavioral assessment, neuropathology, transgenic mouse colony management, molecular biology (including western blotting, immunoprecipitation, proteomics), lipid biology and lipid metabolism, and/or combination therein are top priority.
  • Manage and oversee multiple research projects from planning through implementation, evaluation, and reporting, while monitoring scientific progress and daily laboratory operations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator, collaborating labs, external faculty, and interdisciplinary research teams to support basic and translational studies, including protocol development and neurological and metabolic data interpretation.
  • Perform and oversee animal-based research, including rodent handling, surgeries, health monitoring, tissue collection, and adherence to approved IACUC protocols, as well as implementation of study protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct advanced data analysis, which may include metabolomics, proteomics, and pathological analyses.
  • Prepare manuscripts, research reports, conference presentations, and preliminary data for publications and future grant applications.
  • As required, present findings at seminars, national meetings, and scientific conferences.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with grant and regulatory submissions (NIH, FDA), participate in programmatic funding initiatives, and provide scientific recommendations influencing study design and completion.
  • Mentor and coordinate with laboratory personnel (graduate students, other postdoctoral fellows, and lab technicians) to ensure data quality, proper data organization, and effective presentation of research outcomes.
