This senior position ensures that company and customer needs and requirements are met through the management of human resources, equipment, and allocated financial support for an allocated geographical area.


The Senior Manager - Transfer is responsible for managing the Transfer/Load Adjust service line across multiple regional locations. Knowledge of equipment usage and proper operation is required. This is a hands-on position requiring demanding physical work outdoors and managing, as well as personally conducting, the following:

· Customer contact/customer service

· Assist in developing and initiating operating plans and policies subject to the approval of the Regional VP

· Assure the continuing growth of the profitable operation of the divisions within the assigned region

· Scheduling daily work assignments and job activities

· Train as well as conduct Safe Forklift operations

· Transfers and adjustments of commodities within rail yards or on right of way

· Knowledge of AAR Rules and trans-loading processes and procedures

· Transfer from railcar to railcar or railcar to semi-trailer, including but not limited to:

  • • Food Products or Case Goods
  • • Fertilizers & Chemicals
  • • Plastics & Resins
  • • Lumber & Building Products
  • • Coal & Aggregates

Duties and Responsibilities functions considered essential are marked by an (*):

· *Determines goals/objectives of the area and individuals assigned to provide customer service needs

· *Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees and determines staff requirements for the area

· *Prepares, implements, and monitors proper allocation and scheduling of personnel to respond to customer needs.

· *Develops, implements, and monitors safety measures to prevent accidents/injuries and trains managers on all aspects of equipment and site supervision

· *Ensures timely preventive maintenance and repair of equipment in the assigned area

· *Reviews costs and modifies operations to maintain and enhance profitable operation of divisions

· *Evaluates quality of service and effectiveness of managers and divisions

· *Plans, monitors, and accepts accountability for job quality

· *May be required to respond to major derailments or environmental remediation/services emergencies or non-emergency jobs to resolve customer concerns, analyze needs and/or sales opportunities, and assist with operations

· *Reviews transfer operations of competing organizations and assists in job bid processing when required

· *Conducts operation analysis of assigned area to plan response to market/customer needs

· *Plans and assists in sales program to develop markets; assists in development of market strategy

· *Meets with customers to support marketing or operational transfer endeavors

· *Hires, trains, and supervises; regularly evaluates performance, and counsels transfer staff. Ensures proper orientation of staff into the organization

· *Ensures training program is implemented for managers, operators, and laborers within the area of responsibility

· *Ensures the administrative requirements of divisions are completed promptly

· Performs other incidental and related duties as required.

Requirements:

Experience Requirements:

5+ years of direct management experience in transfer, Load adjust, derailment, or environmental services operations


Knowledge/ Skills:

  • Strong ability to effectively communicate technical information to all types of people, both verbally and in writing; multitask and coordinate confusing and often conflicting priorities; strong communication, decision-making, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of railcar, transfer, and Load Adjust operations
  • Knowledge of railcar loading and tie-down operations
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of DOT drivers' logs and compliance
Educational Requirements: High School graduate or equivalent

Preferred Education: AS or BS


Required Certification/Licensure:

Current training and certification: ROW credentials, 40-hour HAZMAT, Tank Car, and extensive knowledge of state permit procedures. Valid driver's license.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift/carry materials up to 50lbs.


Travel: Subject to long, irregular hours and 24-hour on-call availability. Must be able to travel 75% of the time. Driving for extended periods. On call 24/7 unless scheduled for time off.


Working Conditions: Indoor and external working environments. Regularly exposed to noisy, loud environments; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions. Some exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, risk of radiation, and vibration.
