Description

General Summary: The primary role of the Registered Nurse is to implement the patient care delivery model for the patient and their family. Additionally, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating the care provided to assigned patients. The unit consists of single patient care rooms, which can also be isolation rooms.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. All duties performed will be done accurately and in a timely manner. The registered nurse collaborates and communicates with inter-disciplinary care providers in developing and assisting in plan of care. Observe and record patient behavior. Collect patient health history. Research ways to improve healthcare processes and improve patient outcomes. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Responsibilities: Organizes and prioritizes and updates plan of care in collaboration with patient, family, and significant others in an observation unit. Identifies patients at risk for injury regarding diagnosis, medication, procedure, age, etc., and prepares room environment. Perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests. Administer medication, change wound dressings and care for other treatment options. Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions when appropriate. Consult with administration and providers to decide on the best treatment plan for patients.

Qualifications

Education and Training: Minimum high school education or equivalent. Must possess an active and unencumbered TX Registered Nurse license. BS in nursing preferred. CPR certification with AED is required and must be kept current.

Experience: Experience in a clinic, doctor's office or hospital with a minimum of two experience preferred. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and have excellent customer service skills.

Other Requirements: Skilled in use of computer/EMR systems. Knowledge of Word processing software, spreadsheet software, Internet, and database software.

Work Environment: Clinic environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Mental / Physical Requirements: Requires manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance. Close vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work efficiently under pressure.
