Job description

Description:Do you enjoy solving complex problems such as identifying the specificity of antibodies in patient samples? If you do, come work in one of our Immunohematology Reference Labs.


LifeSouth Community Blood Centers needs to add Medical Laboratory Scientist to our Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) in Gainesville, FL.


A standard work week consists of four (4) 10-hour shifts or five (5) 8 hour shifts.Varying shifts are available, including rotating or set schedules, and rotating holidays.Available shifts include day shift, evening shift, and night shift. Shift times may be negotiable.

About This Position

Resolve complex immunohematology and compatibility problems to provide the safest donor blood for the patients in our community. We focus on providing the best possible customer service. Flexible schedules, such as, working four (4) 10-hour shifts or five (5) 8-hour shifts per week may be available. No on-call requirements.


Minimum Qualifications

  • National certification as MT/CLS/MLS with ASCP, AAB or AMT, including immunohematology
  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science
  • Familiarity with blood banking
  • Clinical laboratory training program or three years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience with a minimum of six months in the transfusion service or Immunohematology Reference Lab
  • SBB(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) preferred

Responsibilities Include (but not limited to)

  • Follow established policies and procedures
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify a supervisor, manager, or director
  • Document all corrective action taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
  • Exercise professional judgment in evaluation, specimen integrity, results accuracy, and inter-result validity, and take corrective action as necessary


This is a full time position. Starting salary range is $31.00 - $40.80 an hour. Shift differential may apply.
