o Radius rule: Traveler’s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
● Unit Information:
o Beds: Will vary based on unit
o Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months Med/Tele RN (Resource Team requirement)
o Will you accept a first-time traveler: Not preferred but will consider
● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
ADTU
o 12 Beds
o Patient Types: Med/Tele Overflow area to support all inpatient units/ED holding; Diagnoses include but are not limited to: CHF, COPD, Chest Pain workup, Stroke s/s, Respiratory issues, etc.; Testing is prioritized
● Patient Ratios:
o RN: 1:5-6 (critical surge 1:7-8)
o CNA: 1:6-12
● Required Licensure & Certifications:
o BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)
● Skills required:
o General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc), PCA pumps
o Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF
● Support within the Department:
o CNA
o Receptionist/HUC
o Charge nurse – may or may not have patients
o Phlebotomy – peripheral blood draws
o IV/VAT Team: 11a-7p, 11p-7a
o Resource Nurse – as staffing allows
o RT, 24/7
o Hospitalist, 24/7
o Intensivist - ICU provider in house until 11p M-F, till 7p Sat/Sun, VCC coverage and on call Intensivist
o Telemetry monitoring/tech? no
● Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: Epic
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Phillips
● Floating: If yes, where?
o All units within scope at Mercy
o Within region and scope of practice
o Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable
o Please see job posting for dedicated region and discuss the region that applies (will change per requisition)
▪ Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises
▪ Region 2 - Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, Central Division (CMC Main + CMC Mercy + Levine Children’s Hospital)
▪ Region 3 - Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)
▪ If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)
