Description

Job title: Medical Records Clerk with Coding

Reports to: Health Information Manager

Position: Full-Time (40hr per week)

Benefit Eligible: Yes


Cherry County Hospital & Clinic is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Clerk to join our team. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate patient records, medical coding, and supporting quality patient care.

Position Responsibilities
  • Maintain, scan, and organize patient medical records
  • Process medical record requests in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies
  • Assign ICD and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures
  • Assist with birth certificates, statistical reports, and medical staff files
  • Review records for completeness and communicate with providers regarding documentation
  • Support the billing department with coding-related claim issues
  • Answer phones, respond to emails, and complete general clerical duties
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Strong computer, keyboarding, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with healthcare professionals
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD/CPT coding, and HIPAA regulations preferred
  • Ability to adapt to changing healthcare regulations and maintain confidentiality
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Keyboarding and computer skills
  • Completion of medical terminology course preferred or willing to complete a medical terminology course within one year of hire 
  • Prior experience with medical coding or willing to complete a medical coding course within one year of hire
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, with occasional standing, bending, and lifting of medical records
  • On-call hours required
