We are currently building our talent pipeline for the OMNY (One Metro New York) program, supporting the transformation from legacy MetroCard systems to a state-of-the-art, contactless, account-based fare payment system across MTA New York City Transit (NYCT).

The Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Lead Fare Collection Technician/Mechanic to support on-site work in NYC Transit subway stations, focusing on both OMNY technology deployment and legacy fare system support.

This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience working within NYCT stations on fare gates (turnstiles), ticket vending machines (TVMs), and related systems.

Position is contingent upon contract award. 

Your Impact

OMNY & Fare System Support

  • Oversee, monitor and report on the installation and commissioning of: 
    • OMNY contactless fare payment devices (tap readers, validators)
    • Fare gates/turnstiles integrated with OMNY technology
    • Ticket vending machines (TVMs) and legacy equipment
  • Assist in ensuring reliable performance testing of contactless and open-payment systems (credit card, mobile wallet)

Field Operations

  • Work on-site within active subway station environments
  • Coordinate with NYCT personnel to maintain service continuity and minimize customer disruption
  • Assist in granting access to the NYCT station infrastructure: including power and communication rooms.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain installation logs, test reports, and field observation records
  • Follow all MTA NYCT safety, operational, and compliance requirements
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and performance tracking

Work Environment

  • On-site work in NYC subway stations, including underground environments
  • May require: 
    • Night, weekend, or off-hour shifts
    • Work during planned service outages or maintenance windows

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent 
  • Minimum 11+ years proven experience working in MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) stations
  • Hands-on experience with: 
    • Fare gates / turnstiles
    • Ticket vending machines (TVMs)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Must be local to the New York metropolitan area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with contactless or OMNY-type fare systems
  • Familiarity with: 
    • Account-based ticketing (ABT) systems
    • EMV/contactless payment technology
    • Networked device troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting transit modernization or capital programs
  • Technical certifications or relevant training

Compensation: 
Expected Salary (all locations): $ 109,500.00 - $ 155,000.00

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and specific geographic location.
