An OMD is a dental specialist who diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and defects affecting the mouth, jaws, face, and neck. They perform surgical procedures such as tooth extractions, corrective jaw surgery, and treatment of facial trauma. OMDs often work closely with other dental and medical professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients. Additional training beyond dental school is required to become an OMD.
