Small Engine Generator Mechanic

Location: Mooreville, IN

Pay: $28.00- $30.00 Per Hour DOE


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Small Engine Generator Mechanic responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of portable and standby generators and related small-engine equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose problems safely and efficiently in the field or shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on generators and small engines.
  • Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, generators, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, fuel, ignition, and charging-system problems.
  • Perform oil changes, filter replacements, belt and hose inspections, battery testing, and other routine maintenance.
  • Inspect generators for proper operation, safety, and reliability.
  • Test generator output, voltage, frequency, and electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair starting, charging, fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems.
  • Replace or repair defective engine and generator components.
  • Use diagnostic tools, multimeters, test equipment, and standard mechanic hand tools.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and service documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts, and maintenance performed.
  • Respond to field service calls and perform repairs at customer or job-site locations when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working on small engines, generators, heavy equipment, automotive equipment, or similar mechanical systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Experience with gasoline and/or diesel engines.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely work around operating machinery, electrical equipment, fuel, and moving engine components.
