Offshore Operations information

What are offshore operations?

Offshore operations refer to the activities and processes carried out at sea, typically on oil rigs, platforms, or vessels, to explore, extract, and produce oil and gas resources. These operations involve a range of tasks, including drilling, maintenance, logistics, and safety management, often in challenging marine environments. Offshore workers play critical roles in ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of resources while adhering to strict environmental and safety regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in offshore operations?

To thrive in Offshore Operations, you need strong technical knowledge of marine and drilling processes, safety regulations, and often a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with specialized equipment, safety management systems, and certifications such as BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help professionals adapt to challenging environments and collaborate effectively. These skills and qualifications are vital for maintaining safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance in high-risk offshore settings.

What are some common challenges faced in offshore operations, and how can new team members best prepare for them?

Offshore operations often involve working in remote locations, unpredictable weather conditions, and long shifts, which can be physically and mentally demanding. New team members should be prepared for a rigorous safety culture, high teamwork requirements, and the need to quickly adapt to changing operational priorities. Familiarizing yourself with safety protocols, building resilience, and maintaining strong communication with colleagues are key strategies for success. Most companies provide comprehensive onboarding and ongoing training to help new hires acclimate to these challenges.

  • Work within a dynamic team of multidisciplinary engineers and specialists throughout the life of product design, integration, and test efforts
  • Support design and integration of surface platform subsystems, components and payloads, including managing interfaces
  • Responsible for the development, review, and execution of comprehensive test plans for development, integration, acceptance testing
  • Build, support and maintain a test and evaluation program that may be subject to government test & evaluation standards
  • Support day-to-day test operations for our products, platforms, or sub-assemblies, including conducting pre-mission testing, launch and recovery, vehicle tasking, and data analysis both internal and customer facing
  • Responsible for setting up, collecting and refining operational metrics
  • Support hands-on troubleshooting, repair, operation, and maintenance of surface maritime platforms in the field
  • Author and/or review detailed operational test reports to document the step-by-step execution of internal and customer facing efforts to test and evaluate the surface platforms and new capabilities
  • Support local sea testing and operations, including multi-day offshore operations
  • Support pre-mission and post-mission logistics required to successfully execute test operations
  • Participate in design reviews, requirements analysis, and system verification planning to ensure compliance with project goals and industry standard
  • Collaborate with external partners or customers in the integration and test phases, cataloging and addressing their requirements and ensuring successful integration of their payloads into the surface platform and of the system into the overall mission lifecycle
  • Support the implementation and maintain processes for maintaining configuration control, version control, documentation and overall safety throughout the entire development and test cycle, including land and sea based efforts for extended hours as required
  • Ability to travel (~30%) as required for test planning and execution
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A genuine interest and 5+ years experience in systems engineering, integration, and test
  • Experience generating TRRs, Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports
  • Familiarity with concepts of mechanical engineering, software development and testing, electrical engineering, and control theory
  • Experience in field test and operationally focused environments
  • Knowledge of electronics troubleshooting and ability to use basic test equipment

  • Ability to travel up to 30% of your time, with potential over 30% during key test campaigns/surges
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
  • In this role, you will be subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening, as required by the Company.
