Job description

Roanoke Regional Airport Commission is seeking a dependable, hands-on leader to join our team as a Building Services Assistant Manager. This position plays an important role in maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for passengers, employees, tenants, and visitors traveling through our airport.
Under the direction of the Terminal Manager, the Building Services Assistant Manager assists with the daily operations of the Building Services Division, including supervising staff, coordinating schedules, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting the overall cleanliness and appearance of airport facilities and Commission-owned buildings.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist in leading and supervising Building Services employees to ensure airport terminals and facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, attractive, and customer-focused manner.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, training, and support to assigned staff.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance, timekeeping, work quality, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Help create a positive, productive work environment through effective communication, teamwork, and consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the airport, responding to passenger, tenant, employee, and operational needs.
  • Train employees on proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, chemical use, safety practices, and required procedures.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments, work schedules, priorities, and coverage needs to ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Assist with inventory management, equipment needs, supply ordering, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with applicable safety, security, and airport requirements.
  • Support airport emergency operations, special events, and winter weather operations as an essential member of the Snow Team.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Associate degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or management experience in a service-based environment.
  • Experience in custodial services, building maintenance, facilities operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and effectively coordinate people, equipment, and resources.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA/VOSHA safety requirements and industry cleaning practices preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
Special Requirements
  • Must successfully obtain and maintain required TSA security clearance for unescorted access to airport secured areas.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be available to work assigned shifts, including nights, overnights, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as operational needs require.
  • Position is considered Essential Personnel and may be required to respond during airport incidents, emergencies, special events, and winter weather operations.
