Ocean Export Agent

IAH - Houston, TX 77073

Description

General Responsibilities:

The Ocean Export Agent is responsible for planning transportation, including the most economical and quickest routes for shipping merchandise to and from destination, contracting for common carrier and other transportation facilities, negotiating with carriers for adjustments for damages to merchandise, and making the necessary rearrangements resulting from delays, damages, or irregularities in transit, is performing exempt work. Ocean Export Agent primary duty is the performance of office non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations. The employee's primary duty must include the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Coordinate shipments with Shippers and Receivers
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer needs
  • Communicate with customers, staff and vendors
  • Correspond with overseas agents and clients
  • Book cargo
  • Handle AES Transmissions
  • Issue documents such as B/L, Dock Receipt, Booking Order, C.O., etc.
  • Handle the preparation of documents based on Letter of Credit requirements
  • Prepare other documents as required by customer
  • Send Pre-Alerts via email and original docs via international courier when required
  • Invoice files
  • Learn and apply U.S. Government regulations
  • Work with steamship line/trucking companies to obtain quotations and handle the movement of freight
  • Prepare quotations
  • Successfully perform business tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Two years experience in ocean export or similar role
  • Strong communication skills with multi-faceted and diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Basic level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and Word is required
  • High School Diploma or GED
