Job description

Overview

The Director, Global Epidemiology & Real-World Evidence leads epidemiology and RWE activities across assigned therapeutic areas, with a strong focus on the U.S., in alignment with global strategy. This role provides scientific and methodological leadership for observational research and evidence generation, partners cross-functionally to integrate RWE into development and medical strategies, and oversees key vendor relationships and external collaborations. The Director also supports functional excellence, team development, and the application of robust epidemiologic methods to advance scientific and business objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead epidemiology and RWE strategy for assigned therapeutic areas, with a strong focus on the U.S., in alignment with broader functional priorities.
  • Provide expertise in epidemiologic methods, observational study design, causal inference, and database strategy.
  • Support implementation of global RWE strategy in the U.S. and collaborate with regional colleagues to promote alignment across geographies.
  • Manage RWE budgets and oversee vendor partnerships, database utilisation, and external research collaborations within assigned areas.
  • Provide epidemiology and RWE input to cross-functional decisions related to study design, evidence planning, regulatory submissions, and payer materials.
  • Represent the function in selected external engagements with academic partners, vendors, and scientific forums, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to methodological innovation and continuous improvement in epidemiology and RWE practices.
  • Manage or mentor scientific staff and consultants, and support development across the epidemiology function.
  • Support functional capabilities by contributing to processes, SOPs, systems, and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related field; or MD/PharmD with advanced training in epidemiology.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including substantial experience in epidemiology and RWE programmes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in epidemiologic methods, database strategy, and observational research design.
  • Experience supporting regulatory interactions, evidence planning, and external scientific engagement.
  • Experience managing or mentoring staff and working effectively in matrixed environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional Information

The base salary range for this full-time position is $230,000 - $265,000. Individual pay is determined by several factors, which include but are not limited to: job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The range does not include the comprehensive benefits, bonus, long-term incentive, applicable allowances, or any additional compensation that may be associated with this role
