Job description

Overview

The Route Supervisor is responsible for directing the daily activities of drivers and helpers in order to provide safe, effective ad courteous waste collection services to customers. The incumbent will ride with a driver during his/her scheduled route to identify opportunities for enhanced operating efficiencies, accurate billing, opportunities for increases in service and potential safety hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Rides with assigned driver on a designated commercial and/or residential route to gather data such as travel times, disposal volumes, service and collection times, and accuracy of the route sheet in an effort to increase efficiency, reduce cost, improve revenue and reduce safety hazards.
  • Ensures the proper usage of the OBC and OBC back office to help achieve the divisions efficiency, safety, and customer service goals.
  • Provides recommendations for improvement in route scheduling, service capabilities or other changes based on findings during on-route observations.
  • Coordinates and provides cross training to drivers to ensure proper coverage when employees are out due to vacation or sickness.
  • Collaborates with customer service and sales to achieve service quality and responsiveness to highly demanding customers.
  • Supervises and coaches drivers on pre and post trip inspections, and training/re-training of new and existing drivers when necessary.
  • Manages and provides leadership to team members by effectively communicating, establishing clear goals and objectives, coaching team members on achieving goals, and ensuring access to training and development opportunities that assist employees in attaining the necessary skills to achieve team and corporate results.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.
  • Ensures compliance with all company, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws regarding employment and employee safety.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a High School diploma or equivalent, a valid class A or B CDL driver’s license, 2-4 years of commercial driving experience, and a clean driving record. The incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment and experience in a customer-facing position.

Strong commitment to workplace safety and DOT regulations, outstanding relationship management skills, and an ability to measure and review productivity standards are required. Excellent listening, communication, and problem-solving skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft products are necessary.

Although not required, 1-2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
