Job Summary

Provide treatment, monitoring, and follow-up analysis for clinical trial participants. Take health histories, watch for negative effects, and collect samples. Adhere to federal and regulatory requirements regarding patient information. Work collaboratively with team members and physicians. Identify potential clinical trial participants and oversee the process of recruiting those patients for experimental research. Ensure patient has information about the trial’s potential benefits and risks, and that all information is understood well enough to give informed consent. Requires the Registered Nurse (R.N.) credential. Requires basic skill set and proficiency. Conduct work assignments as directed. Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgment.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. Responsibilities

  • Assesses and ensures subject safety during trial.

  • Proposes and negotiates alternatives for protocol. Educates staff about the scientific aspects of the study.

  • Applies pharmacological knowledge to help PI determine idiosyncrasies and unexpected results. Evaluates adverse events (AE), intervenes when necessary and reports details to PI. Conducts follow-up to determine resolution of AE. Reports serious AEs to IRB and sponsor.

  • Presents related information to community for recruitment purposes or to other research professionals in a variety of settings.

  • Mentors and trains new and subordinate employees.

  • Helps determine personnel required to complete trial and develop the timeline for trial completion. Reviews study related data to assure compliance with study protocol.

  • Prepares emergency use report.

  • Manages pharmacokinetic collection and storage.

  • Relates lab results to PI and sponsor.

  • Ensures appropriate maintenance and calibration of equipment.

  • May perform bedside care.
