Job description

Constituent Services Associate

The Constituent Services Associate is a full-time position in the White Plains, NY office of NYS Senator Shelley Mayer. Under the supervision of the Director of Constituent Services and Chief of Staff, the Constituent Services Associate addresses the needs of constituents seeking information, services and resources, through research, casework, and referrals depending upon the needs of constituents. Knowledge of or interest in government systems (benefits, housing, healthcare, courts, state and local governments), and customer service or social work/advocacy skills required.

Candidates should have strong commitment to public service, solving a range of constituent issues, ability to follow-up with relevant agencies to track progress and ensure resolution on all requests. Curiosity, willingness to learn, excellent research and writing skills, empathetic demeanor, attention to detail, patience, and listening and problem-solving skills are a must, as is timely and accurate recordkeeping and reporting. Familiarity with online case management systems is a plus.

The Associate will have responsibility for attending meetings and events with the Senator or on the Senator's behalf, as well as helping with written work, and planning and assisting with office and community events. Flexibility required as all staff pitch in on other responsibilities as needed.

The Associate will support the Senator's Youth Advisory Council (YAC), a leadership and civic engagement program for high school students throughout the 37th Senate District. Responsibilities may include assisting with recruitment, meeting coordination, event planning, student engagement activities, and supporting youth-led advocacy and community service initiatives.

Some remote work is permitted. Occasional weekend work required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

• Bilingual (English and Spanish) is strongly preferred
